As we reported earlier, TNT has renewed the HawthoRNe TV series for a third season. The series will return sometime in 2011. The last two seasons have aired over the summer months so it’s likely year three will do the same.
Here’s the official press release from TNT…
TNT Orders Third Season of Powerful Medical Drama HAWTHORNE, Starring and Executive-Produced by Jada Pinkett Smith
TNT has written a prescription for a third season of the powerful medical drama HAWTHORNE, starring and executive-produced by Jada Pinkett Smith (Collateral, The Matrix trilogy). TNT has ordered 10 new episodes of the hit series, which is slated to return in 2011.
Created by Emmy(R) winner John Masius (St. Elsewhere, Providence, Dead Like Me), HAWTHORNE premiered in summer 2009 and ranked as one of ad-supported cable’s Top 5 new series of the year. In its second season in summer 2010, the series continued its success, averaging 3.7 million viewers and ranking as ad-supported cable’s #1 Tuesday program among women 25-54.
“With its memorable characters, powerful performances and moving storylines, HAWTHORNE takes us on a dramatic journey through the world of a hospital on the brink of collapse,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “This series has performed extremely well among our key demos and proven itself to be a great summer series. We are very excited to continue working with Jada and HAWTHORNE’s outstanding production team and cast.”
HAWTHORNE stars Pinkett Smith as Christina Hawthorne, an impassioned Chief Nursing Officer struggling to whip a failing hospital – and her personal life – into shape. Michael Vartan (Alias) co-stars as Dr. Tom Wakefield, who has a complicated personal relationship with Christina. The series also stars Suleka Mathew (Men in Trees), David Julian Hirsh (Lovebites), Christina Moore (90210), Vanessa Lengies (American Dreams) and Hannah Hodson (The Ron Clark Story).
HAWTHORNE comes to TNT from Sony Pictures Television in association with Overbrook Productions and Jamie Tarses’ FanFare Productions. The second season of HAWTHORNE was executive-produced by Pinkett Smith; Glen Mazzara (The Shield, Crash, Life); Jamie Tarses (My Boys, TNT’s upcoming series Franklin & Bash); Masius; and Miguel Melendez.

Ohhh my god Hawthorne was amazing i just watched the 3 seasons on Netflix u can’t believe this got canceled after every episode i wanted more & the season finale just left me with my mouth wide open! It’s so much u can do with this & so many things & people on there left Un answered! Please bring it back! Thanks in advance!
I would love to see Hawthorne come back. I just finished watching all 3 seasons on Netflix. The critics are WRONG. This show has me mesmerized! The cliffhanger on the last episode makes me want more. All of the characters were unique in their own way. Please, please bring it back. Let Nick live.
I have always loved the show Hawthorne. My opinion is that the writers need to get together and come up with a solution to get the show back on the air. Due to the fact that they wrote the scenes. You can’t always blame Jada Pinkett Smith or any of the other cast members when the writers are the ones who write the scenes. I have loved to see Jada Pinkett Smith from the very first time I seen her on television and I always will.
People… Don’t know ****… This was the best show…. On TNT… They always taking off the good shows… But I know my girl will be back….I can say…. They always take off the shows….when a black women….is with a white man…. Tired off looking at boring… A– white show.

The writing and story line are terrible. Christina’s character is not likeable at all. She’s all over the place from not being able to get over her dead husband to eventually we find out the relationship wasn’t that good toward the end. She can’t manage to love a new man then she wants two. She goes into a rage at the drop of a hat and then thinks it her right to give personal advice to her daughter and co-workers. I think there are other characters in the show that would be more interesting to see more story lines for… Read more »
cannot leave the ending as is. must come back and close things off.
I was a fan of the show as well, but they succeeded in killing it. I agree, I can’t imagine a Season 4.
I was a super fan of this show…until this season. Can we say worst season EVER!!!!! Where is the medical drama that got us hooked. Where is the leading character that hooked us and reeled us in. The friendship between Bobby and Christinia, what happened!!!! Somehow I knew this would happen. Why go through the hassle of getting Tom to just drop him. And Marc Anthony, not a good decision. I don’t even watch anymore. You should have left it alone…if Moonlighting could do it for so many years, it may have worked with this show also. I’m sorry, but… Read more »
I agree with everyone else. This season is terrible. She chose Tom at the end of season 2 and a few episodes into season 3 she is in love with both of them and sleeping with Nick. I can’t imagine that this show is going to have a season 4. Very disappointing
