After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I and my family, are very very very very disappointed that it is canceled. We were so looking forward to the next season. So many good shows are being canceled way to early.
I HATE tv! Every body watches crap and then finally some thing I love and we don’t even get a proper ending? This is the only tv series I ever bought on dvd and wish there were more. and as far as ratings go… I am not a number on a report that tells you what I want, I am a person telling you.
I’m with all the other Heros fans…wheres our ending?? It was in my top favorite shows and now that Smallville is coming to an end, what do the networks want us superhero fans to watch??? Please show us some justice and give us an ending..please!!
Come on, bring Heroes back, at least wrap it up with some sort of conclusion. Don’t leave people hanging!
I am bummed out that this series has been canned by NBC. It appears, from what I read here, that some viewers felt it hit a lull after season 2. I guess a good thing can’t be expected to last – but I hope they’ll at least wrap up the story line for those of us who were big fans. Heroes was my favorite show, and it will be missed at my house.
At least give us a wrap series of shows….this stinks
I loved heroes. Always a nailbiter and the cast members were sensational. Please do the ending i am still waiting for an ending. PLEEEEASE!!!
This show was great for two years and when it came back from the strike it was half of itself. It begain a painfull spiral down till it ended with a poof and no one even noticed because they had stopped watching the show long before that ever happened.
Started out so strong seemed like no filler. then season two was ok. then season 3 was so so and then season 4 was more of the same so so. they screwed up when they started adding filler episodes. then the story line each season started looking the same with a different twist. but over all it was better than most other shows on every thing else just feels like carbon copy rip offs of older shows this was new original different and now its over. go a.d.d america. back to cheap easy repetitive crap.
No Heroes? Now what? I love Heroes
Hero’s was the only reason I watched NBC, good job loosing all your viewers!
It’s not the producer’s fault. It’s NBC. The people working on the show would love to wrap it up or do a finale/if they havn’t already(just started watching lost:) ) I’m sure.
I am a huge fan of the series. I am so sick of cop and hospital and reality shows…Heros was different, “out of the box”. At least the producers of “Lost” and Ugly Betty” had enough consideration to give fans a finale. Forget watching another series on NBC. They lost me.
Heroes is an awesome series. I understand that people found it hard to follow, but that’s one of the things that made it great and highly unpredictable! This is the only series we have ever purchased on dvd and would have continued to purchase them. I think it stinks that series are being canceled without any finale. It makes me rethink whether or not to start new ones with such engrossing story lines. Now I know why reality tv is so popular. 🙁
i think it was the best show i’d ever seen and i don’t like alot of tv shows. I want closure!
