After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I’m P-off left us hanging loose,no fair,no ending.It need to come back
BAD CHOICE IN GETTING RID OF HEROS. THE FACT TO LEAVE IT IN THE STATR THAT THEY DID AT A HIGH POINT. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER ENDING TO THE SERIES.
LOVED THE SHOW
TODD
I have watch Heroes from the beginning and it was great. Really love everything about it. What a bummer. Not cool with no ending. Hate it like I do about HBO, Sopranos ending? Make me not want to watch the channel anymore.
They{nbc} cancelled Heroes…unexplicable…then Conan…it’s like they’re trying to lose all fans…what’s next, the entire Law and Order franchise?!?!
I didn’t care for the carnival set up as much as the other seasons. Either way it was great and a shame it was ended.
We think there needs to be an ending to this series…why should we continue to watch NBC shows if this is how they treat loyal fans—–to just drop the show with no warning or conclusion to it——its just wrong to do that. The show that replaced it….THE EVENT…..is horrible…..and some sort of ending is needed here!!!! Nice going NBC….way to treat the people who care about the shows—– please re think this and give us and ending!!!!!
Cancelled Heroes and make another possibly money making ain’t right for your audience loyalty to you network. You started it, you finish it. It’s such a cliffhanger! We felt like NBC will always drop us off any show that disadvantage to them on counting their money rather than making it work for us. Modern TV shame.
Heroes was a great show I am so tired of getting into a show just for it be canceled with no ending all I want is a proper ending for the show I mean for real tho how are you going to end with sylar being a hero and clair coming out to the world so much more to go off of give us an ending
I loved the show and the actors.nbc needs to at least give it an ending.i wish scyler would kill them.
This was the best thing on TV. I record them with an old VCR just to make sure I am caught up. Every show should have an end for closure for the fans you money hungry pigs. The old days always had “THE END”
NBC made a very bad choice in cancelling Heroes without any warning! Heroes has A LOT of Fans everywhere, including Facebook, and we, as viewers ,deserve a proper farewell to a show that caught a lot of people’s attention and admiration! The cast and crew deserve that much as well! Just when it was getting really good AGAIN, NBC pulled Heroes from the air without a trace! Not good NBC, not good!
I HATE THAT THEY WONT HAVE A SEASON 5 I LOVE THIS SHOW AND I’T WAS GETTING REALLY GOOD .. I STOPPED WATCHING A LOT OF THE NBS SHOWS BECAUSE OF THEM DROPPING HEROES!!!!!!!!!
I too loved this series. The fourth season was a mess, I will admit. But season 1-3 was solid and fantastic. If the writers were given another go, more viewers might come back. It’s like an author who wrote a bunch of great books but then flopped on one. The actors did great, they worked with what they were given and made you get attached to them. The plot had great twists. I think it was just the carnival thing wasn’t jiving with what we had started with. I am not attached to the 4th season. I would wait and… Read more »
I just recently started watching Heroes b/c I needed a new TV show on DVD to get into while I worked on my computer (not near a TV). So, I chose Heroes! LOVE it. Now my fiance has started it with me and loves it too. I just found out from my sister, also a Heroes fan, that they cancelled the show. I have just started season 3..makes me wonder if I should even bother finishing it since I KNOW there won’t be an ending! After 6 years of watching LOST and being sorely disappointed with THAT ending, I am… Read more »
Loved the show!!!! I thought it was different from anything on tv and gave me something to look forward to on Television besides drama’s with no real twist.
At least one more season would do NBC Justice!
This just sucks, I was realy into the show. NBC I dont know how or who does your rattings but quit listing to them and listen to the people. This was a great show, out of the box, something new for a change. I mean WTF.
