After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

Hmmmm… Not one positive comment about canceling Heros. NBC execs, do you get the picture? I came in at the start of season 3 and rented the previous two seasons just to catch up on great series. They just reminded me why I prefer to watch FOX. Bye bye NBC.
NBC please bring back Heroes. This show is so much more fun to watch than the shows you are airing now. I’ve watched this show from the beginning and every episode kept me waiting for more. I have never felt disappointed over a show ending before, but losing Heroes is just depressing. The characters are great and the show takes you away from the real world. Bring Heroes back so that I can look forward to Monday nights again. It’s not always about money…some times NBC, you have to think of the fans!
My husband and I didnt get to see much of eachother during the week when the show first started, so we made it a point to sit down together that one time a week and watch the show! It sucks that they canceled it. After season 2 the episodes did get a bit dry though 🙁
Heroes was truly a great show with much depth and great character development. It’s sad to see that the shows that still remain are so sub-par compared to Heroes!
LOL. I already knew this was going to happen after season 1. Goes to show you that you can’t love a show that much. I too was looking forward to season 5, but alas this goes without saying, that NBC loves to piss fans of a show off. I was happy that at least Battlestar Galactica was able to finish the story; Quantum Leap, remember that. But items like Bionic Woman. No. Don’t you get it. Network execs don’t care about what you like, or the fan base, they only care about getting that paper! Getting paid. Money! Learn from… Read more »
We need more HEROES!! I would love to at least see the two hour series wrap up that I have heard about. When will it air? Come on NBC… we need a time and a place. We will be there!!!
Heroes kept me on my seat episode after episode and made me mad where they left off after every episode, but they made up for it the next week by picking it back up right where they left off. That kept me screaming for more and to hear that they are just going to end it is absolute garbage. HBO needs to pick this up and run with it I know they wont just drop it like NBC. Oh and by the way NBC why don’t you fix your messed (Jay Leno & Connan Obrian) screw up that you did.… Read more »
Can’t believe these jerks opted for the easy way out. It’s about the $$$ they say. Well, we watched it from the begining, I would close my shop early on Monday just to see heroes, we still followed it after the screwed up the storyline, even waited out the writers strike. . . Now I find out these jackholes have cancelled it. Who the f*** is running this network? Crackheads? Do they give a damn about the audience? I pretty much don’t watch NBC except for Chuck. Now, the Cape? Ridiculous. & I am a Sci-Fi fan, tried the 1st… Read more »
plz start heroes again.
It’s messed up that heroes is over. It was my favorite show on Tv of cable Monday night was one of favorite nights of the week. Nbc needs to do better shame on them for canceling such a good show.
It’s a slap in the face to all the fans that have watched heroes from the beginning to just end the series without a wrap up. I was a huge fan of lost n I appreciate them making the effort to keep the viewers happy. Nbc really dropped the ball on heroes an I hope fans send road kill to your offices.. by the way, what’s Nbc’s address?
The Cape is nothing more then a low budget Spawn rip off! Too bad NBC and those hack writers didn’t know how to take Heroes in a better direction! Still thoughtthe show was better than most of the garbage on TV whether it’s cable or regular channels. So sad.
Its a shame that nbc didnt have the balls to finish what they started. Heros was one of my favorite shows on t.v and for what to be left hanging with no ending. NBC your a big JOKE. and seriosuly THE CAPE.. for real, are you trying to replace heros with this crap? I hope the cape is a huge flop for NBC.
Loved Heroes, can’t believe they are cancelling it. NBC get it together. Too costly, lousy excuse. You guys make $$$. You will loose your followers for sure.
Please let their be an end to the series. I really do not like it when networks just decide to stop a show. My husband and I were fans and watched together every week. Why not give the fans an ending? Just a thought!
