There may still be a chance for Home Fires. According to Radio Times, the show’s creator is hoping to continue the cancelled ITV series.
Earlie this month, we reported the UK drama had been cancelled after two seasons. Home Fires stars Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis as members of the Women’s Institute during World War II.
Series creator Simon Block said he was surprised by the show’s cancellation:
It’s always difficult to gauge how things are going to go so you don’t quite know what the criteria for whether something’s going to carry on or not. It had held its audience, it had won its slots, figures were strong as far as I was told so in that sense I guess it was a surprise in that it went against what we were expecting based on the criteria we were told things get judged by.”
He mentioned that the fans’ response has been overwhelming:
I’ve been blown away. When the news came out that it had been cancelled, suddenly everything went ballistic and you really get a sense of how passionately people feel about it. That was really a bit of a shock.”
He later added that the show is exploring other avenues for a possible third season, but they are still in the process of “initial discussions.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Would you like a third season?
This is such an outstanding show! It’s unimaginable that it can be cancelled. It’s brilliantly acted and exceptionally written. Can another station take it on if ITV is too dumb to continue this story through the war. This is history that will be lost to a younger generation of viewers if it is isn’t continued. The Homefront is one of the best ways to dramatize what the war was like for ordinary people.
The amount of unadulterated celebrity dross on our televisions, and they cancel a quality drama with a brilliant cast instead! Get it back please. I don’t care who makes it – I will watch it on whichever platform takes it!
Please let there be a season 3! Love love this show.
Must have a third season, excellent show! Can’t just stop at the second season! Please continue!
Put it on any channel just bring Home Fires back!!!! Such an excellent period drama, well written and well acted…………you can’t leave us on a cliff hanger like that!!!!
I’m BEGGING YOU, PLEEEEAASE BRING IT BACK…GET NETFLIX TO PICK IT UP OR HULU…SOMETHING PLEEEEEASE
This show is the best show we have on TV. I look forward to it every week. It is the only show I watch. It realistically depicts the struggles women face during WW11. The cast and the writing is the best. Cancelling the show would be devastating. We are in a crisis right now globally and could very well face what these brave women faced and dealt with in England during the war. They are all strong, resilient women who face adversity head on. Strong women whom we can all learn from. I hope a station in the US will… Read more »
I’ve watched this a bit late but just really shocked when I got to the end of Series 2 and just left hanging….. Grrrrr. Please do it….
This is such a good show! PLEASE bring it back! Thousands of viewers want to know the stories of the people of Great Paxford. We’re all hoping that Bryn and Mim have a healthy baby and we also hope that David is alive and headed home. If not, that his parents will know for sure. We hope that Pat gets free of Bob (him dying would be very satisfying) and gets together with Marek, who clearly loves her and will treat her well. We hope that Will’s radiation therapy will either heal him or at least give him a little… Read more »
Cancelling this series is a true blow to those of us who admire great writing, wonderful story lines, and rabidly look forward to each epidsode and season. An inspiring drama depicting strong and resilient women …there’s so much more to say!
Yes! I hate being left up in the air! This is a great program that shows the lives of normal people under attack in WWll.
Absolutely the show should be carried over for a third season. I’d like to see it run for seasons four, five etc. We’re used to long running shows in the states and our programming pales in comparison
A wonderfully done show with so much potential for continuation of fine drama…captures the period so well
When you have a winner, you GO with it. Home Fires deserves to be continued to the end of World War 2. This from a fan in California.
I, too, hope the series continues. I enjoy the story and character development.
