Well, there’s one dangerous situation that Christopher Chance can’t escape. FOX has cancelled Human Target after two seasons on the air. No season three.
Human Target follows a private bodyguard and security expert (Mark Valley) who protects his clients by integrating himself into their lives and becaomes a “human target.” He’s aided by his business partner, Winston (Chi McBride), and a tech genius named Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley). In the second season, a former client (Indira Varma) becomes his benefactor and an expert thief (Janet Montgomery) joins the team to seek redemption.
The series debuted back in January 2010 to a positive 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.12 million total viewers. Subsequent episodes had some solid numbers (thanks in large part to American Idol) but the latter part of the season really declined. The season finale brought in a mere 1.9 rating and season one averaged a 2.9 rating and 9.6 million viewers.
The show was on the bubble for renewal last May but FOX ultimately decided to give the series a second chance to get better ratings. That didn’t pan out.

Last November, season two of Human Target debuted to a week 1.8 rating in the demo and 6.59 million viewers. The network kept it on through the holidays, the ratings got worse, and by January it seemed like they’d given up on the series. The final episodes of the season performed a bit better but, again, thanks to being teamed American Idol. Season two averaged a 1.7 demo rating and 6.4 million viewers.
As one of the network’s lowest scripted series of the season, it seemed like just a matter of time before FOX would cancel Human Target. Last night, they officially did. Despite some devout fans, Human Target just wasn’t a winner in the ratings. After 25 episodes, the show is over.
What do you think? Should Human Target have been renewed for season three? Why didn’t more people watch the TV series?

I wish another network would pick it up because it really was a decent show.
This was the best show that I’d seen in a long long time. It will be sorely missed. Hopefully they will release them on DVD
I hope that someone else picks up Human Target, I absolutely love the show and all the characters! I hate how show times and days are moved and then they blame it on the show. You idiots FOX! BTW, I very much dislike reality shows and do not watch them.
I am totally upset over the cancellation of Human Target!!!! That was the only show I watched on Fox!! So now my TV will never tune into Fox anymore. The show was totally riveting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Thank you to all the cast and crew for doing a show that was AWESOME!!!
Lets show FOX what we think about cancelling The Chicago Code! Help get everyone you know to watch the final episode. http://on.fb.me/jsyZwS
With all of the reality shows out there (none of which I watch) there should be other shows to break those up. Human Target was a great show! I am appalled that they canceled that and yet keep all of those other less interesting shows on the air! I will surely miss my Christopher Chance!
They should cancell some of the real junk, That show was good and the only one i watched on that channel
First off, I’m totally devastated, but not surprised. I’m desvastated because it was a show with a ‘hero’. Everyone needs a hero, and Chance was mine. I’m a 57 year old gal that remembers back to The Man from Uncle, and The Equalizer. Shows that had action and drama and in some cases, heros. Unlike some commenters here, I LOVED the addition of the two female characters. They rounded out the show to keep it current and believable. Women are in the world of adventure and intrigue, even if they weren’t back in the 50’s!! And I loved the major… Read more »
I loved that show. What I didn’t like was what they did to it in season two. They should not have added a wealthy benefactor to call the shots. The master thief was fine, but the main character was down graded when they gave him a boss. I will definately miss that show though.
I find it hard to understand how you can cancel a show that had something to it. It didn’t have to rely on lockerroom humor to get laughs because the writers knew how to use thier minds and put cute stuff in with out hitting you over the head. They had a story line that had more to it then seeing how short a time it took before some remark was made about Sex or whatever some brainy person wanted to call it. Ok it was not a *cheap* reality show but just how many of these do you think… Read more »
Wow Cyn Ann, I seriously feel really bad now. You have said it so well. And reminded me of things I hadn’t really considered. And all the feelings I had when I watched. Everyone needs a hero, and in Chance, I had one. Once a week, when I felt vulnerable, I could watch Chance be a hero for the underdog. You mentioned all the great ‘undertones’ of the show. All the fine detail that people miss when they only ‘half’ watch TV. Some people are multi-tasking so much that they think a program is bad because they never really paid… Read more »
Will we get a summer season of Human Target? I love, love, love this show! Only show on Fox I watch. Don’t want to wait until fall to see more. Please do a summer season!!
KW, not sure if you understood the article. They have cancelled the show for good. It ended the season in January, and they decided not to renew it. Not sure if FOX will even have summer reruns if it did so poorly. Personally, I loved it. But, I find I’m in the minority with my likes and dislikes. FOX and the TV industry in general is bound by what is popular becasue they have to make their advertisers happy. Poor ratings, and obviously noone wants to pay for advertising when there is no audience. that’s how the cookie crumbles. I… Read more »
Yes, I looked forward to it each week. I certainly will miss it.
Probably the reason the show did not have more viewers was the fact that FOX kept moving the show around and not telling viewers where to find it.
Yea, you hit the nail on the head! I can remember missing it (because it was moved and the auto-record didn’t find it in the program schedule). So, I had to watch two episodes online. Fortunately I was able to, but think of all those fans who don’t have access to good internet, or are limited in download. And for heavens sake, I loved the show! They left it at a great spot with Chance and his boss!! FOX cares more about just pumping out the wrong American Idol (Good luck to Naiima and James Durbin). I loved Human Target… Read more »
