They’ve really pulled out all the stops for the season finale of FOX’s Human Target. Of course, they have to since there’s no guarantee that the series will be back next season. But, even if you haven’t watched the series before, hearing that the Six Million Dollar Man himself, Lee Majors, will be a guest star, should have action fans tuning in to take a look.
Human Target premiered in January and stars Mark Valley as Christopher Chance. He’s a bodyguard of sorts, but instead of just throwing his body in front of his clients, he completely integrates himself into their lives, to become the target of whoever wants his clients dead. Winston and Guerrero (Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley) are his business associate and hired gun.
A few weeks ago on Human Target we were given a glimpse into Chance’s mysterious past and we discovered how he started working with Winston and Guerrero. Lennie James played his former partner, Baptiste, who is considered “the best assassin out there.” Valley admits, “I think he kicked my ass to be honest with you… I feel like the audience is rooting for Chance to kick his ass next time.”

Next time? Yep, Baptiste is back, and Chance is going to get some help from Lee Majors, who plays his former mentor. The casting turned out to be a dream come true for Valley. He’s a big fan of Majors and said of working with the former star of The Six Million Dollar Man, “The little boy in me was tearing around the house, screaming at the top of his lungs… Inside I was like [mouth opened wide], Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” Majors could see that Valley was moved and got a chuckle out of it.
Valley wasn’t the only one with admiration for Majors. The more eloquent McBride, who worked with him previously on The Brothers Solomon, admires the veteran actor for his long history in the business, and said, “You get to hear him talk about television, and he’s been around for a long time, you know, from Big Valley to Six Million Dollar Man, and you’ve got so much stuff in between.”
McBride also admires Majors for having been married to Farrah Fawcett, along with his work acumen. “The guy was actually standing in for himself between setups and stuff like that… I wish more younger people especially would get an opportunity to work with people like that.”
As devoted fans know, Human Target has not been renewed for next season and it appears the network is still on the fence. The ratings have been okay for this season; not bad and not great. Considering the fact that FOX has cancelled 24, it seems likely that the network will take a chance (no pun intended) and bring it back next season. We’ll know for sure by mid-May.
What do you think? Should Human Target come back for a second season? If so, would you like to see Majors again?

I hope it comes back next year too. Here’s a tip for Fox on how to improve the show’s cult status. The Human Target is based on a DC Comics character, a very third tier (or beyond) property. It would be fun if the writers could go in a sort of Smallville direction, bringing in other lesser known (and non-super powered) DC players into the mix. It would help get the show more buzz amongst comic geeks at least.
There are only two shows Fox has worth watching and that is 24 and the Human Target. Since they are cancelling 24, they better not cancel Human Target. It is really the only show I would take time out to watch. I looked forward to seeing it on Wed, however it got moved around a few times at first until the Wed slot and then it wasn’t being advertised or hyped up like some of the other shows. Not sure why. I had no clue the season finale was on as I never saw one thing advertised. I had no… Read more »
Not that many shows that my husband and I can sit down and watch with our 15 year old daughter. This one we can and we all enjoy it. The humor with Guerrero is particularly impressive. Please don’t take away the night with our daughter!
After seeing Mark Valley on Boston Legal, I thought I might not really dig Human Target. So many TV “actors” are not really acting, but are just playing themselves… Anyway, I tuned in and was REALLY surprised. This guy is a real actor and this series has great writing and a great supporting cast. Looking forward to more of it.
Please Please Please dont cancel this show….action, humor, intense story lines. What is there NOT to love?? Mark Valley ( Boston Legal) is awesome, and believeible!!! I wont watch ANYTHING on FOX if this show doesnt return next season!!!
Wednesday night was becoming “HT” night and tonight, with dismay, no “HT”. I definitely think the show should be brought back–like any new series, the first season is the training ground– the characters have to evolve, develop their relationships (does anyone remember the plethora of ‘unfunny’ episodes in the first season of ‘Seinfeld’?). The show is sort of campy and ofcourse predictable–but I am a very intelligent, overworked woman and I admit, at the end of the day I love a good battle of good vs. evil. A nice fantasy of black and white in a world so definitely grey.… Read more »
I am very particular as to which shows I watch. Human Target is one of the very few shows which is appealing, well-written, the actors and actress have real talent, and it has a real target audience. The characters in the show Human Target have depth and this show has very real possibilities of maintaining and keeping and adding to its viewing audience. When you have as many individuals commenting on how much they like watching “Human Target”, then Fox, You should listen to Your audience. I am looking forward to next season and I hope Fox does not dissapoint… Read more »
I loved this show. I look forward to Human Target every week. The season was to short. Bring it back soon.
I love Human Target. Valley is great and the show is getting better and better as the characters develop. Bring it back Fox!
Human target is great. It’s one of the few shows that I watch on Fox on a non sunday night.
Human Target is one the few shows that we make sure to watch. Please keep it on.
I hope Human Target will be coming back. It is so entertaining. Feels like you are watching a movie, not just a TV show. I have loved Mark Valley since Keen Eddie, and his charisma and charm shine in Human Target. I am also a fan of Chi McBride since Pushing Daisies, and he is great here. I also enjoy seeing Jackie Earle Haley. He makes quite the interesting anti-hero. The plots and the action are pure escapist fun. I feel like we are just starting to get to know these characters. I hope you will continue the show with… Read more »
This series MUST be renewed. It is one of the most entertaining shows on TV today. I really hope Fox gives it another chance. They also need to give it the proper treatment. No more crap of moving it ar0und to accommodate Idol. Just give it a set time and leave it. With 24 out, how about Monday night at 9/8c? That would be perfect.
I love this show, it has action, comedy, eye candy and fun story lines – it would be a shame if this show was not renewed and given a real “chance” to survive – please, please don’t cancel this show!!!! I agree with Jonathon Johnson, lets get back to real TV – this show does just that!
I definately agree that the show Human Target should be brought back next season, when telling friends and family about the show I compare it to Macguyver with a twist. I love the action, story lines, the plot, the actors right down to the way the show kicks off before going into a classy kinda opening credits. The only thing that disappointed me last season was that it was too short and not on every week due to American Idol. I think its time we get back to real tv, and leave the reality tv behind, fads over!!!
It would be a very sad viewer if they pulled human target off the air it is one of the few programs I LOOK FORWARD TO EVERY WEEK . I like every story line I have viewed and I have viewed them all. I was very disappointed it cut short last season.
