Daman Wayans is sticking with the Lethal Weapon TV show — at least for a little while. FOX has reportedly ordered two more installments of the action dramedy series, bringing the third season order to 15 episodes. Wayans will appear in them.
An action-comedy-drama, Lethal Weapon stars Wayans, Seann William Scott, Kevin Rahm, Johnathan Fernandez, Michelle Mitchenor, Keesha Sharp, Dante Brown, and Chandler Kinney. The series follows Detective Roger Murtaugh (Wayans), his LAPD colleagues, and his family at home. After a tragedy, Murtaugh is partnered with Detective Wesley Cole (Scott), a former CIA operative who’s been everywhere and seen everything. How long will it take him to adjust to Los Angeles?
Earlier this month, Wayans announced that he planned to depart Lethal Weapon after the 13th episode of the current third season. Apparently, FOX had been considering ordering a two-episode back-order and the show’s producers and the network execs were surprised when Wayans made his announcement.
A 58-year-old diabetic, Wayans said that the 16-hour days on the set and physical demands of doing an action series are too much for his health. Though he did not mention it at the time, Wayans’ daughter and mother recently underwent surgeries and he couldn’t be present for them due to his schedule on Lethal Weapon.
Wayans and producers have now met about his concerns. They’ve reportedly worked out an adjusted filming schedule and special meals will be brought in. In turn, Wayans has agreed to stay on for the two extra episodes. According to Deadline, “he has not shut the door completely to doing a possible fourth season should the series get renewed by FOX”.
A trio of episodes from the third season have aired thus far and they’ve averaged a 0.76 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.17 million viewers. Compared to the second season, that’s down by 23% in each category. Lethal Weapon is currently tied for last place among all of FOX’s current scripted series.
Given the current numbers, which have been inching downward, it seems unlikely that FOX will want a fourth season of the series. If Wayans still wants to depart after these 15 episodes, I’m guessing that would seal the show’s fate since it would be the second high-profile cast change (after Clayne Crawford’s firing) within a year.
What do you think? Are you still watching the Lethal Weapon TV show? Do you think that it will be renewed for a fourth season, with or without Wayans?
I hope there will be a 4th season. I also hope that Damon doesn’t leave.
I was finished before this season started. Such a shame, this show HAD the Magic!
I havent since Clayne Crawford was killed off never will watch loved him as Martin Riggs Dont care if the show ends or comes back for a new season unless Clayne Crawford is back
After the firing of cleyne Crawford have not watched lethal weapon since, the series was based on Riggs and murtaugh not murtaugh and whoever this other guy is. Damon wayans was not professional and a Ted like a cry baby until he got his way I hope the show gets cancelled and another network picks it up and retires cleyne Crawford as Riggs and someone else as murtaugh.
Since Clayne Crawford was let go haven’t watched the show and not planning to. Don’t care if they pull the plug.
I love the show. It’s very funny. And I hope Damon doesn’t leave.
I like the show pretty much. Of course the original casting with Clayne Crawford was by far the best show on TV along with Bull on CBS
This really pisses me off. I liked Clayne Crawford and I heard Damon Wayans Jr say on a talk show, his dad didn’t get along with Clayne Crawford. That makes me think he was the number one reason Clayne got fired and now he’s pulling out? It was my favorite show on TV. I watched the new one even though I wasn’t planning to because I’ve always liked Seann William Scottand wanted to give him a chance. It is still good. Did Damon Wayans just get diabetes? I’ve had it for 20 years and I worked two jobs for 12… Read more »
I like the new guy…its a good show..
I watched the first episode of S3 and won’t watch it again. Besides Wayans treated Crawford terribly. So even though I feel for the secondary characters who are GREAT, I don’t think Wayans deserves a show. Any show.
I don’t see why it shouldn’t continue into season 4. Especially if they’re willing to take care of DW’s concerns. I hope he considers, but understandable if he decides to walk away.
I have not watched since they fired Clayne and will not watch.
Love the new guy This is a great show
I love this show. Just getting used to riggs being gone but we need damon to not leave the show to me he would be irreplaceable. Hopefully he will stay and they will get another season. I hate getting totally in to shows when they cancel them so fast. Please have another season.
I love this show. Hope they renew it.
