Daman Wayans is sticking with the Lethal Weapon TV show — at least for a little while. FOX has reportedly ordered two more installments of the action dramedy series, bringing the third season order to 15 episodes. Wayans will appear in them.
An action-comedy-drama, Lethal Weapon stars Wayans, Seann William Scott, Kevin Rahm, Johnathan Fernandez, Michelle Mitchenor, Keesha Sharp, Dante Brown, and Chandler Kinney. The series follows Detective Roger Murtaugh (Wayans), his LAPD colleagues, and his family at home. After a tragedy, Murtaugh is partnered with Detective Wesley Cole (Scott), a former CIA operative who’s been everywhere and seen everything. How long will it take him to adjust to Los Angeles?
Earlier this month, Wayans announced that he planned to depart Lethal Weapon after the 13th episode of the current third season. Apparently, FOX had been considering ordering a two-episode back-order and the show’s producers and the network execs were surprised when Wayans made his announcement.
A 58-year-old diabetic, Wayans said that the 16-hour days on the set and physical demands of doing an action series are too much for his health. Though he did not mention it at the time, Wayans’ daughter and mother recently underwent surgeries and he couldn’t be present for them due to his schedule on Lethal Weapon.
Wayans and producers have now met about his concerns. They’ve reportedly worked out an adjusted filming schedule and special meals will be brought in. In turn, Wayans has agreed to stay on for the two extra episodes. According to Deadline, “he has not shut the door completely to doing a possible fourth season should the series get renewed by FOX”.
A trio of episodes from the third season have aired thus far and they’ve averaged a 0.76 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.17 million viewers. Compared to the second season, that’s down by 23% in each category. Lethal Weapon is currently tied for last place among all of FOX’s current scripted series.
Given the current numbers, which have been inching downward, it seems unlikely that FOX will want a fourth season of the series. If Wayans still wants to depart after these 15 episodes, I’m guessing that would seal the show’s fate since it would be the second high-profile cast change (after Clayne Crawford’s firing) within a year.
What do you think? Are you still watching the Lethal Weapon TV show? Do you think that it will be renewed for a fourth season, with or without Wayans?
It was great with Murtaugh and Riggs but they committed series “suicide” when they fired Crawford. I quit watching. It was a good show that I looked forward to watching
I agree 100%. Clayne Crawford made the show. Although Scott is appealing, the character of Riggs was central to the show’s concept.
I enjoy the show and regularly watch it..it will be a shame to see it canceled, but it’s a numbers (rating). Game. And if Damon leaves the show-it’s a wrap
I like the show with Cole. Season 4 please.
Please don’t cancel lethal weapon show. I love all the characters, it is very intertaining. Wayne is one of my favorite. Come on people. It’s great intertainment.
I bet they’re glad they fired Crawford, in order to keep this primadonna happy. Not only can’t Wayans carry the show, now it turns out he doesn’t want to.
Kill off Murtaugh and bring Riggs back, somehow. It’s the only hope for the show.
Scott can get his own show, called “Sensitive and Vulnerable Guy with Great Abs”.
I like it even better now! Dont cancel.
Bring back Riggs.
Bring back Crawford! Maybe he had to fake his death or something. Ratings will go back up if he comes back. Get rid of wayans. Keep the new guy too. You can keep murtaughs family too because they really took Martin Riggs as apart of the family.
I think after the departure of Crawford the show is in toilet. Wayens is a crybaby. Crawford and Wayens made show was great chemistry. Wayens thinks he is a should be only star of show. Went from action packed to boring soap opera.
I think fox needs to keep lethal weapon. It is much better this year. I watch it every week.
I love the new Lethal Weapon! I think it’s better with Scott than it was with Crawford. I think people should give the new cast a chance and they’ll be pleasantly surprised. The addition of Scott’s former girlfriend and their daughter adds a whole new dimension to the show (love the casting too). I look forward to each new episode and am hoping for a season 4. Please renew!!!!!
Having on at the same time as This Is Us is a reason for declining watchers… i made a choice and the other won out.
This is a perfect example of ruining a good thing . Surprisingly Sean William Scott was better than expected. But Damon Wayans has gotten worse . Then to the genius that brought in that ghetto cop The Gute . That was it for me I’m done . This show deserves to be cancelled. Just my opinion
Was my most anticipated show to watch each week … sadly, it’s changed, and have grown to not even record or watch it anymore.
I stopped recording. Just not the same. Acting seems forced.
