Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

Why do they always have to cancell the most brillant? What everybody should be far more interested is understanding the body language, behaviour etc of the people around them, learning from the real clever people which are, as you see there, only a few. Please, bring back Lie to me, we have to fight the blindness of our modern society.
I’ll tell you why, because dumb ******* people are loving CSI **** and a brilliant show like this is too hard for their simple mind to comprehend so they just switch channel, making rating very low, and since the people who decide what goes on air don’t give a flying **** about the quality but only care about ratings, money, advertising, money stuff stuff stuff and more **** ! they ******* canceled a brilliant, innovative and clever show like this one …. pisses me off so ******* much ! To see such a good show and still seeing the 78th… Read more »

I’m very disappointed there’s not GOIN to be a season 4
I watched it for the first time on Netflix! I really enjoyed it! Boo to Fox for cancelling it! I guess 5 million viewers aren’t enough? Wow
Lie To Me was one of my favorite shows never missed it! Please bring it back!
Love this show! So disappointed that it has not continued! Bring it back FOX, please!
My husband and I love the show and are disappointed it ended right after he admitted OUT LOUD he loves Jillian. Such a good show!!!
I really wish they would have never cancelled this show! I have watched the 3 seasons, 5 times over the course of this past year on Netflix. I really wish they could have given them more seasons! There was so much developing in the characters. This show had so much more to offer, so much more to come!
Hello , perhaps it’s too late to change anything , but across Russia a lot of fans of the series , he is adorable , my request as a request of hundreds of other people , and perhaps millions , cover Is removed and released to Season 4 , because the rating will soar after such a long wait .. Thanks in advance from me and millions of other fans !!
This show is amazing! I’m on season 2 and I have already been looking up the science and doctor behide this intriguing practice. What Fox failed to think about, when they canceled this show, is that the same year Game of Thrones premiered and Walking Dead and Breaking Bad was building the hugest fan bases ever. Granted, really good shows but its like comparing apples to oranges. A show like this didn’t stand a chance. This show stands in the realm of criminal mind and other shows like that. Seriously entertaining and seriously in need of a second chance. Since… Read more »
That’s a shame. I liked this show very much. Tim Roth is a brilliant actor. He can make even the most boring characters interesting and if you give him a great script to act with, like this show’s, he will become a maestro. Combine that with some other cool characters, you have a good show. I hope they re-consider their decision even though it’s a little late. Better yet, I hope they make a new show with him.
Started watching this on netflix with my wife. We got hooked on the show right away. We stayed up every night and watched the episodes all the way until the end of season 3. Then we looked up if there will be a season 4 only to be disappointed.
So yeah would be awesome if they made the next season and more as well. They didnt get good ratings on fox because no one watch’s fox anymore..put it on netflix and boom rated 5 stars! Netflix should definitely pick up this show.
Found “Lie to Me” on Netflix, and absolutely love it. Am bummed it’s over. There’s no coming back to it though unless the original characters return. Loved the interaction of the characters in each of the episodes. Thank you
Love this show. Just discovered on Netflix. Whole family loves it – even our teens! Can’t believe it was cancelled. Likely needs another network, never new it was on fox, But they’re not known for their great shows – one that needs an audience that can think beyond curse words and gratuitous sex scenes. Another network needs to grab this one and promote it well.
