Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

Ok, this is good news in that FOX found their brains and is putting it back on the air with a full complete season. Waiting until May though ……well, there are other shows that could easily be replaced with Lie to Me. I’m not one for House even though the actor is a good actor, the show just doesn’t do much for me. Lie to Me is full of depth, character, integrity, good characters, people to get involved with……Reality shows in plain English ‘suck’!. Sure there is another time slot. Why not Tuesday night 7pm opposite the Lost repeat of… Read more »
i have to agree with every one that has commented on this show. Every one i know watches ‘lie to me’ and all agree it is one of the top 5 show on fox. some reality shows are pathetic and could easily be taken off to make room for ‘lie to me’. Please DONT cancel.
We have been looking all over trying to find Lie To Me. Possibly moving it to another night may increase its ratings and attract more viewers. Lie To Me has an interesting approach to investigation on television, separating it from the C.S.I.’s etc… We will totally be looking for Lie To Me in the Spring.
Lie to Me is one of our favorites! If ratings are low, it just needs more advertising…everyone we know that checks it out, loves it!
This is absolutely the best show around. Please don’t cancel this show. There are so many stupid reality shows on TV and now there’s finally a cool show to watch. Please don’t cancel…. please…..
Lie to me is a great show I’d rather it had been put in a different time slot than put on hiatus. I’d watch it no matter when it came on
Wonderful show. Terrific actors with well-delineated roles. I love Tim Roth. He does well-controlled quirky – unlike, for instance, lunatic Monk, who I found silly and annoying. I may not be in the demographic that makes the difference, but I love the show. Please don’t cancel it.
I would consider “Lie to Me” one of the top shows, Ive have been looking forward to the new season. Please do not cancel this T.V show!
We love the show! DON’T CANCEL. CHANGE THE NIGHT IF YOU HAVE TO. BUT DON’T CANCEL!!!!!!!!!
