Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

My husband and I love this show. Please bring it back.
Love this show! Please dont take it off the air..Its brilliant and unlike any other show out there. Move it to a night where there is not so much competition and advertise it more!!
Love it. Can’t wait for it to start again.
This is the best show on TV in years! Fox has totally blown it with the schedule, airing a few shows, taking it off for months, losing it’s audience. They are dooming the show to defeat by this tactic. Hopefully, Fox puts this excellent show back on- and for extended periods of time. It is the kind of show that really grows on people, but they need the chance to see it!
Please do not take Lie to me off it is one of the best shows I have ever followed and I am a reader not really into TV, except that show is on. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I think Lie To Me was the best show on this season and from many past. Please return the show to my tele.!!!!

I’ll die if “Lie to Me” is taken off FOX. it’s on my list of favorites and I tell everyone about the show! I love Dr. Lightmen’s intimdating aproach. I’d hate to be the one he suspects is the perpetrator.

I found the show on netflix me and my family are hooked. I hope fox will keep the show on.
Lie To Me is the best show to come out in YEARS!!! The science of it is intriguing and exciting. I purchased seasons 1 and 2 and am eager to see and own all of season 3. I hope the network will come to it’s senses and continue with this show for years to come!! Don’t neglect the science end of it. It fantastic!!
put this show back on air. It’s alot better than watching a dr. pop vicodn through the whole show. or watching dancing with the stars, surviver,or all the other junk and junk thats on tv now. put it back on or move it to a tuesday or wensday when there isnt anything worth watching.
This is a great show! POORLY marketed however… I did not watch it until i stumbled upon an episode when i was ill. Now i’m HOOKED! The network shouldn’t waste well written script and dynamics because thier marketing of the show is terrible…. Vamp the ads not the show!
