HBO has cancelled their Looking TV series after two low-rated seasons. While there won’t be a third season of the gay dramedy, the series will have a resolution.
Looking revolves around three gay friends (Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez, and Murray Bartlett) in San Francisco as they make their way in the world, looking for personal and professional fulfillment. Also starring are Lauren Weedman, Russell Tovey, and Raul Castillo.
The half-hour show debuted in January 2014 to just 338,000 viewers. It was a poor start but viewership grew as the weeks progressed, hitting a season high of 519,000 in week six. Despite the low ratings, HBO renewed Looking for a second season, keeping it as a companion to their low-rated Girls series.
The ratings have gotten even worse in season two. Just 150,000 viewers watched the February 15th installment. Season two averaged 240,000 viewers with a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demo. The finale aired on Sunday.
Now, HBO has decided to cancel the show but plans to wrap up the series with a special. There’s no word on when it will be released as yet.
A statement from the cable channel says, “After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special… We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans.”
What do you think? Did you like the Looking TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season? Will you be watching the special?
So sad there won’t be another series.. Fell in love with the show and characters.. So well directed. It’ risqué yes, but people will embrace it eventually. If I was HBO I would keep it on. It will catch on. Everyone I knows loves it.
I am soooo gutted!! I watched this show every Monday and I loved every minute of it. It’s so realistic and the characters are so down to earth, I could relate to the struggle they’re going through even if I’m a straight female. And that’s something only a good tv show can do! I can’t wait for the special episode..
I come from Germany and really loved that show :)). I can’t believe, that we will not see a third season :((. I WANNA A THRID SEASON!. Of course I will watch the special. But I think many of my beautiful moments will be missing…I think they just pairing Patrick and Kevin that’s it..But I wanna see him with Richie..at least a few fights..
I’m so sad :((…another great show is cancelled 🙁 … Every time I fall in love with it… hopefully my other dream pair..Ian and Mickey, gonna stay together 🙁
Greetings from Germany 🙂
So sad to end such a great show. It was just getting to the part where you really felt like you knew the characters and wanted to know them more…..that would have been Season 3. Ive been watching all the way from Australia and I will be watching the special, but….I would have preferred the story of these characters continue.
Fantastic show. Incredible that more people did not watch it. Great writing and actors. Sometimes, ratings should be ignored in lieu of artistic standards.
Extremely disappointed, especially because of HBO Now, which will allow non-cable/traditional HBO subscribers to see the episodes. I think this show will develop a cult following and HBO will be kicking itself in a** for canceling before realizing its potential. I think this show is also so important for our culture. From “Hollywood” in Mannequin to “Titus” in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, gay men are too often portrayed as over-eccentric and irresponsible, not involved in romantic relationships but merely comic relief. Looking was the first show where the characters and their stories were the heart of the show, and they just… Read more »
Sorry this show was cancelled. Will watch the special, but would rather have season three!
Loved the show and disappointed that there will not be a 3rd series. Was just starting to get to know the characters and what they were all about.
I can not believe this show will not have a 3rd season….VERY DISAPPOINTED…don’t know where HBO gets its ratings…but they ARE WRONG..EVERYBODY LOVES THE SHOW !
This was a great show which depicted gay people truer to real life. Each character was lovable in their own way. It was funny and heartfelt. I am surprised it had such low ratings. It was a quality fun drama. I will miss the cast. Great acting.
I’m disappointed that the show wasn’t renewed. I would have enjoyed a third season.
Folks the ratings are horrendous. There is no way it could be renewed. Very few people are watching this show. Thank God it was canceled. Hopefully a better show will take its place.
Such a shame, I feel like I was just starting to get to know the characters. To my great surprise Agustine really showed to be a strong character and I was rooting for him. I will look forward to the special.
It was a stupid show. Bring back ***** as Folk!
I am really sad that there will be no third series , I have really enjoyed both series and as the weeks have progressed it has just got better , of course I will watch the special but would have preferred another series .
