HBO has cancelled their Looking TV series after two low-rated seasons. While there won’t be a third season of the gay dramedy, the series will have a resolution.
Looking revolves around three gay friends (Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez, and Murray Bartlett) in San Francisco as they make their way in the world, looking for personal and professional fulfillment. Also starring are Lauren Weedman, Russell Tovey, and Raul Castillo.
The half-hour show debuted in January 2014 to just 338,000 viewers. It was a poor start but viewership grew as the weeks progressed, hitting a season high of 519,000 in week six. Despite the low ratings, HBO renewed Looking for a second season, keeping it as a companion to their low-rated Girls series.
The ratings have gotten even worse in season two. Just 150,000 viewers watched the February 15th installment. Season two averaged 240,000 viewers with a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demo. The finale aired on Sunday.
Now, HBO has decided to cancel the show but plans to wrap up the series with a special. There’s no word on when it will be released as yet.
A statement from the cable channel says, “After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special… We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans.”
What do you think? Did you like the Looking TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season? Will you be watching the special?
This was a fantastic series, that I didn’t even know existed.
Guys Q ueer as folk was a huge success based on its advertising. There are millions of gay and gay friendly viewers who didn’t even know about the series. I only discovered it a week ago. Surely not enough was done to progress the series to the hit it would have been. So disappointing there wont be future seasons.
Dicoverwd Looking @ the end of 1st season.
Went back to review it, and I was hooked.
The 2nd seasonm as funny, and Gay witty, became so intimate, and had been my segments of my life.
I was so ‘ Looking’ forward to a resolution.
Loved the love and laughs, (yes U, Dora), Kevin be still my heart.
Pls. keep us posted, or sneak in another season
I came across “Looking” just by chance a few weeks ago. Is the failure attributed to HBO not advertising the show??? This show was awesome and powerful. PLEASE BRING IT BACK but ADVERTISE!!!!!
Second season was too short of episodes. Great series, but not the ‘fight’ of the last episode. Things going for in the first season were abandoned by the second. Way too bad. Tovey’s needed better photo work. Geoff’s? Always looks great.
I really enjoyed “Looking”. I watched both season 1 and 2 several times. There virtually no TV shows for the gay viewers and this was a very good show….great actors and good storyline….I’m happy there will be a special, but would have loved a 3rd season.
I really like this TV series and I’m a little bit shocked that there is no seasons 3 in planning. It’s so sad.
i Really loved the show after i saw it rerun the 1st season before premiering the 2nd, i’m extremely sad that this show got cancelled, Although i am glad there will be a special. i still think they should of had a 3rd season to finish the series off right.
I loved the show. Sad it’s ended
I can’t believe they cancelled “Looking”, I have watched both seasons three times. I love the setting as well as the story, unfortunately HBO doesn’t want anything “unmainstream” or cookie utter predictable crap. I am going to miss it as much as I miss l word. Please give us something.
i loved looking. dont think it should have been cancelled. really going to miss it.
I didn’t know that this series existed. But I really loved this show, quite profound and realistic. I hope that there will be season 3 if more people like me discover these well conceived episodes.
I miss Looking. many of the scenes were so well written and so damn close to reality. not been involved with a tv show for a long time. and then looking happened. I so wait for the season 3. or at least a long special episode. hope kevin and patrick end up together. love them both.
I miss Looking. some of the scenes were so well written and so damn close to reality. and I had started falling for both Kevin and Patrick. I hope they end up together.
I will watch the finally,, my only comments are each episode was to short, the promo, for the series, was non existing, and the story line was , is , a bit of fantasy. Characters were just a bit to feminine !
My boyfriend and I both love looking. We didn’t even know this series exist, I found looking from my HBO demand. W3 love the detail and can feel the heart work from the director. So disappointed if there is no season three.
