A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
I would totally renew Lucifer for a second season. I will be sure to keep watching 🙂
Have you ever said to yourself “I cant win for losing”, this is exactly how Lucifer feels. We all are curious about how God thinks however we just get to see it through a fallen angels eyes I love the show and I try to watch it every week if I can’t watch I go online to watch. This show is a Conversation Piece in the home. It sparks debt and that’s why people are afraid. I say keep the show going, its better then children seeing homosexuality praised on tv. Why can’t children see the “devil” turning good.
Keep, love the show.
I absolutely LOVE this show. What a great NEW concept for a police show. Tom Ellis is wonderful as the “fallen”Angel, I feel he has all the characteristics down pat, he is definitely EXTREMELY handsome and this last episode, “A priest walks into a bar” was his best (also the one where he burns his wings) performance. It actually made me cry, I felt so sorry for him. The rest of the cast is great, love the psychiatrist & his detective “girlfriend”. Please do not cancel this show! ! Tell those “people” who had bad words for Lucifer to “Snap… Read more »

Love love love Lucifer.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LUCIFER !!!!!!
It’s a great series and Tom Ellis’ performance is spectacular. The writers do such a great job balancing ideas of God/Devil, heaven/hell, weaving tough questions within a highly entertaining show. These types of shows don’t come up too often, it really should stay on.
Really enjoy the show. Strongly encourage the network to keep it in the schedule.
