A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
I love the show. I miss his show Rush too but Fox would be stupid to cancel Lucifer. DO NOT CANCEL LUCIFER!
Its a great show and love Tom Ellis
Renew the season! Yes it deals with Lucifer himself but it’s based off a comic book. The reason I like it because of the crime type show and choosing what is good and bad. I love the characters and they are doing a good job.
PLEASE MAKE A SEASON 2 i am dying to see it love lucifer and his accent hahahaha love him omg and please renew the show
Please keep it!
I would enjoy seeing Lucifer back on for a 2nd season. It is just coming into its own and developing. Networks are too quick to chop shows, take The Player last season for instance, 1/2 a season the chop!
I love this damn show!
I love the way the writers have depicted this character! If you watch it, as I do, to see what ways Lucifer points out the weaknesses of man. It is really ingenious of the way the whole cast works and to know that there really is a good and evil choice in everything we do. Hoorah, please keep the series.
I think its interesting and smartly done “Layers like an Onion”. Each episode has us wondering what is going on. heaven, hell, god and his relationship with his least understood son. Open minded people will love this show, but its definitely an Adult show, with Adult content, and Adult concepts.
I love this show. This Lucifer is not “funny” but his lack of humanity at times make him hilarious just because he is so out of sync. I would be interested to see how this develops so hope the show is not canceled.
I watch it on the fox website every week, does they count that sort of thing?
I love this show. He is such a character. Please keep it. The show is having trouble competing with the Voice and dancing with the stars. Maybe a different night.
Keep it
Lucifer is a great TV show. And I am a little confused as to how the get their number of viewers for this article, because I watch this every week with a group of friends. The four of us make a wine and dine out of this show. So that is 4 veiwers per one TV set. And as for radicals disliking the show. That shows nothing of how successful it is with its fan base. Fox needs to reevaluate how they get their reviews because they have killed too many good shows like Firefly.
Keep it. It’s a blast and his sense of humor on the show is hilarious
Well, I purchased the series up front on Vudu, so I sincerely hope it at least completes the current season. I find it fascinating as the producers dance around Lucifer’s un-human traits. At times he’s almost a superhero. The current question of his losing his invulnerability might be cleverly resolved with him being susceptible only to Chloe’s actions. That would hit him hard emotionally as he is already fascinated by his inability to charm her. I give the show 4-1/2 stars (out of five) for it’s witty approach to a subject that could get very chaotic and insensitive very quickly… Read more »
