A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
I absolutely love the show…breaks my heart…u can’t have a little fun on anything without hurting someone’s feelings…the personality of the characters are awesome..hope the show stays on…
Love this show. Tom Ellis is brilliant. Plenty of scope for more episodes. Want to see more character development. Great cast. Witty dialogue.
LOVE the show….some of the plots are a little lame, but love the actors….! Please keep!!
I must admit, at first I thought that the idea of a show revolving around the devil hanging up his horns was ridiculous. BUT-after watching the first episode, (On Demand), I found myself quickly catching up on aired episodes and looking forward to the next new show. The acting is excellent, the stories intriguing and, I personally, find absolutely nothing offensive in any of it. It is definitely one of my few “must watch” shows. I really hope FOX gives it a second season.
Like the show very much, great cast & writing. Sexy, funny, entertaining – what more could you ask for. Please give us a 2nd season!
KEEP IT! It is clever and witty. Please do not cancel this show!! WE LOVE IT! My husband and I DVR every episode.
Keep Lucifer. It’s a funny twist on the notion of good and evil. Lucifer is showing heart and compassion for we poor humans on earth. The actor carries it off with aplomb.
My husband and I don’t like to many shows that are currently on television, especially since he can’t stand Housewives. However, we love the humor this show provides. We actually look forward to seeing it every week.
I love the show, please keep it running.
In the world of sad times this shows,a funny time someone has to put the sadness aside for one hour of funny timed
Keep it! Tom Ellis is deliciously devilish. I wanted to hate the show being a fan of Gaiman’s Sandman, but I love it!
Keep it! Tom Ellis is deliciously devilish. I honestly wanted to change the show as I am a fan of Gaiman’s Sandman, but I love it!
I personally LOVE this show, and it is the only TV show I actually look forward to watching each week. The religious people who are rebelling against this show need to stop, because there is more to it than that. This is a show where the devil might have a salvation, but we can only find out if they renew the season. If they do not renew, they will need to tie up the loose ends- say Lucifer’s secret (that he is the devil) should be revealed and Lucifer and Maze sent back to hell. But they SHOULD DEFINITELY KEEP… Read more »
