A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
This is one of the few shows that my husband and I AND my teenagers will sit down and watch together. It’s smart, unique and funny. It’s also well-cast. We would love to see a Season 2.
I LOVE this show..just the right amount of mystery without the jarring violence. I truly hope the powers that be don’t have Decker and Lucifer in a romantic relationship SOON. I gets to so predictable and boring in shows when this happens over and over
I think the series is great. Lucifer is very appealing. It is so funny.
Please make a second season. The show is gripping, funny and well scripted. My family and I love it.
This is a great show.it is original and interrsting
Please keep this show, Tom Ellis is wonderful as Lucifer, and his interaction with the mortals around him is what makes this show so enjoyable.
I like the show it’s funny with a little touch of drama. Please do not cancel it.
I don’t care what people in religion think.
That is THEIR problem.
Every show can “hurt” someone’s feelings.
It is creative enough.
So, bottom line – dont’t you dare cut it!
What will happen if every time there is some sort of reaction, a show may get canceled!?
I like the series. Handsome man, some drama, some humor. I hope it lasts.
Keep the show going I really adore it.
Please do not cancel, my wife and I love this show. And yes I consider myself not only very spiritual by religious as well and I still love this show. If you fear this show will destroy your religious beliefs in anyway than I would say you aren’t much of a believer to begin with. Very funny and entertaining, which is what a TV show should be. If your belief system is so fragile I would suggest you not even watch TV to begin with.
Keep it the wife and I really enjoy it. One of the few things outside of HGTV she will even watch
We love this show and watch every week. Don’t cancel it for a bunch of religious nuts that have never watched. It’s a great show but they need to give Lucifer his wings immortality back. Viewers want to see both sides of him.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show! The only show I care about on TV is Blacklist and if I had to choose between Lucifer and Blacklist – Lucifer would be it – even if I could never see another episode of Blacklist. Tom Ellis is superb – the second he appears on screen I get ready to laugh – because I know he is going to say or do something absolutely, exquisitely elegant, urbane and interesting. The rest of the case – especially the psychologist is a so funny. I really hope they keep this on and just keep working… Read more »
We really enjoy Lucifer. The way Tom Ellis really camps-up the Lucifer role has us in stitches, which may sound weird given that this show at heart is yet another homicide detective show.
