A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
this show shouldn’t be cancelled. it gives you something to think about
I like this series. Keep it coming.
please keep the show, but keep Lucifer as the devil, don’t make him mortal. The first shows were better because you got to see Lucifer get mad and scare people when they saw who he was. Its no fun to watch now that he is mortal. Keep him immortal and I will continue to watch.
I agree, Kate! Don’t make him human! He can feel compassion, while not losing his immortality and his “true” devil qualities, which he uses to scare people. I know the writers can make his new found compassion and immortality (with his evil “looking” side) work.
Please keep the show on….I really enjoy it.. The show is very very entertaining and Tom Ellis as Lucifer is excellent. I vote most heartily to keep this show.
Please Keep the show on. It first I didn’t think I would like it, but actually it’s very entertaining. and fun to watch the Devil himself with a sense of humor, sexy as hell with an accent. Who would’ve thought.
Writers are a GENIUS – THANKS FOX FOR ANOTHER HI.
Please keep this show and also Second Chance. They are two of my favorites! I can actually watch all of them and be entertained, instead of bored!
PLEASE KEEP LUCIFER ON!!! I love this show, sure it isn’t very religious but the show isn’t supposed to be about religion, just about the devil taking a vacation. Everytime I watch this show I love it, please don’t take that away.
Really great show. Awesome casting and great concept. Don’t cancel
great show, love the characters , I hope the show continues
My husband and I love the show Lucifer. We can’t wait until Monday night to see it. We would, however, like to continue to see him stay immortal. Please, Please do not cancel this show.
Keep it the banter is right up there with Hugh Laurie’s House- its so not PC its wonderful!!
This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. A supernatural element without it being dumb, a comedic element without it being cheesy. The show has come a long way since the premiere. It’s not just about the Devil taking a vacation anymore – there’s plot, character development, suspense, excitement and laughs! Hoping this show gets renewed as it’s the best part of my weekly lineup.
I have very little time to watch any tv, but the hour on Monday nights when Lucifer is on is sacrosanct (dare I say that?) Please do not cancel it. I was devastated when Hannibal ended and thought I’d never watch tv again, but I am so very addicted to this show!
We watch it every week! Great show – please don’t cancel it!
Keep Pleeeeeeeez! Favorite show
This show has me absolutely hooked! I watch it every week! I love it. It’s definitely a must keep! Don’t cancel
