A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
As Trixie told Maze: “He cheers me up.’ Please renew for another season
My husband and I definitely agree with your premise.
I think Netflix has the right attitude. The old way of gauging viewers is obsolete. Most work rotating shift work or have overtime so most DVR, Tivo, or catch it when they can. It is pathetic how tv shows are dumped because of an archaic way how the shows data on popularity is gathered. Fire the old timers and get some new blood into the television stations or die slowly by your own blade.
I agree!
Keep it. I am hooked and want to know where it is going. It is definitely building toward something. Plus I am enjoying the mythology of Lucifer recognizing that he actually is fulfilling a role in a greater plan.
I can’t view the show at its airtime, but must wait for Amazon video to load it up also wait for fios on demand. I wait up sometimes until 3 or 4 a.m. This is a great show; amusing and good writing. With the passing of Father Frank, things have picked up. The show must continue its arc. Lucifer must continue his experiences on Earth. The show may have taken a bit too long to get where it is now; script wise, so PLEASE allow it to continue. Love the dark humor here. Tom Ellis is the Perfect Lucifer; handsome,… Read more »

Love Lucifer!! PLZ DO NOT CANCEL the show!!
Keep. Just, keep. Definitely a favorite at our house. I actually look forward to Mondays now!
Please Renew! Lucifer has become a favourite of mine and my families. Please give it a season 2!!
Please renew the show Lucifer. My family and I all enjoy the show. The scripting is very good and I think the cast is excellent. We are looking forward to season two.
LUCIFER must be renewed. With CASTLE self destructing there will be a nice niche for it to fill in the comedy/mystery genre. Also, as the theological and personal psychological elements of the show become more apparent the underlying intelligence of its writing is revealed. It may well serve as an adjunct to a viewer’s visits to their psychiatrist or priest. And we really have to know who the detective really is – after all 5 years in L.A. hadn’t previously caused The Devil to become a “better person”.
I love it! Very funny, endearing in parts and makes you want to know what will happen. I don’t even have TV, but I make sure to catch it each week online.
Please renew Lucifer!!! I look forward to it every week. Love all of the characters-Tom Ellis is brilliant as Satan!
The character as portrayed in the pilot was interesting, evil, uncaring, but only occasionally malevolent. The more “human” he becomes the less interesting he is.
