The ratings for Madam Secretary have never been very strong and the series could easily have been cancelled many times over the years. CBS renewed it for a sixth and final season so that the creators could craft a proper final season. Will it be a fitting farewell or will the last episodes just leave fans hungry for Elizabeth to have a another year in office (aka a seventh season)? Stay tuned.
A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Zeljko Ivanek, Patina Miller, Erich Bergen, Kevin Rahm, and Wallis Currie Wood with Evan Roe, Clifton Davis, and José Zúñiga in recurring roles. As U.S. Secretary of State for five years, Elizabeth McCord (Leoni) battled office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals. In the sixth and final season, Elizabeth now holds the highest office in the land with the help of her team. The members include chief of staff Russell Jackson (Ivanek); counselor to the president Mike Barnow (Rahm); press secretary Daisy Grant (Miller); and charming assistant Blake Moran (Bergen). As Elizabeth debates policy and battles opponents on Capitol Hill, that’s just a warm-up for when she’s back at the White House residence with her supportive husband, theology-professor-turned-First-Gentleman Henry (Daly), and their children. It’s there that “politics” and “compromise” take on a new meaning.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: Season five of Madam Secretary on CBS averaged a 0.56 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.41 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV series on CBS? Are you sorry that there won’t have a seventh season?
We absolutely love this series.
Please please please continue

Madame Secretary is one of my favorite TV series. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
This is a great drama. My wife and I watch it each week and can hardly wait for the next episode. It is extremely disappointing that CBS chose to cancel it when it was just hitting its stride. I hope and encourage CBS to rethink their decision and bring back Madame President. The way it ended with a shortened season was no way to end this really good drama. We are hungry for more of this show. RENEW, RENEW!
I hope the final finale ratings are the same after the NFL adjustment!
Darn! They went down!
I love this show. It’s just hitting its stride although the numbers show it to be too low to renew. Also there’s no “language” because it doesn’t need it. Taking each issue and working through it by working as a team under a good leader and coming to a conclusion working with other world leaders without the “language” is refreshing at the least.
Madam Secretary is the best series I have seen in a long time. Please renew the series.
It seems like a show with such potential, but the wonderful Tea Leoni is so off-putting here, I can’t stand to watch.
Keep this show! I love it.
I love this show. Really going to miss it.

Yes I like the series & am sorry it is canceled
I wish they at least gave the final season 20 episodes as a proper send-off or better yet made a spin-off (https://www.change.org/p/give-madam-secretary-fans-madam-president).
I love it. Actors are believable like regular people at home after work and school. Very natural and realistic at home ,school, work, and in dating and everyday challenges to spend time each day at dinner as a family. Excellent and I wish it had 10 seasons!
I love the show is my favorite on the CBS network. I hope the ratings sky rocket and CBS is incline to bring forth a Season 7 or Madam President Spin Off. Anything is Possible.
My favorite show on television. Even when they mischaracterize the energy industry and global warming, I still watch. Love the many characters and the home life versus public life complexities.
We enjoyed the show while learning how government operates from an impartial source.
