Back on Thanksgiving, the cast and crew of Major Crimes broke the news that the series had been renewed for a fifth season. Today, TNTmade it official. Unfortunately, it isn’t all good news.
Major Crimes follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. The crime drama’s cast includes Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco.
Airing on Monday nights, the fourth season of Major Crimes is currently averaging a 0.54 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.73 million viewers (per the live + same day ratings). Compared to season three, that’s down by 27% in the demo. Still, the crime drama continues to be one of TNT’s highest-rated scripted series.
There have been rumors that the series might be cancelled and creator James Duff has maintained they aren’t true. However, we now know that TNT has ordered only 13 episodes for Summer 2016 — the series’ smallest episode order since season one. That certainly doesn’t sound like a good sign for the show’s future but we’ll have to wait and see.
Fellow TNT series The Librarians (season three) and Murder in the First (season three) were also officially renewed today.
What do you think? Do you still like Major Crimes? Do you think that season five should be the end?
love Major Crimes it should continue for more than 5 seasons #bestshowever
Major Crimes is one of my most absolute favorite shows on TV! It has good story lines, great actors that play great characters. I would really hate TNT if they didn’t continue this series! They have broached some very controversial issues gracefully, I really applaud their efforts! Compliments to the writer!
Love Major Crimes!! We need more than 13 episodes for Season 5!!!!
This is a great show. Please, please keep it going. So much better than another reality program. I love the cast!
Love Major Crimes. Can’t watch at time it is on , I do go onto demand to pick up next day. Please do not cancel. Great show !!!
Love major crimes. Would love to see more seasons
I still really like Major Crimes. Although I think these characters have turned into one big happy family, and I miss the sharper edges that characterized earlier seasons. But still great crime writing.
Major crimes is one of our favorite shows and we will be very disappointed if it doesn’t continue. We like the crime solving and all of the various interpersonal relationship story subplots. We love it every bit as much as the Closer and would like to see it continue.
I’ve watched this since it took over from “The Closer” It took an episode or 2 to “Get” Mary McDonnell’s character, but she is a great actress, and fit in well. I STILL can’t figure out if Provenza’s wedding was the SERIES Finale, or just the season Finale. I HOPE it’s not over.
I just discovered the Closer in reruns in February. I just found out, thru this site, that Major Crimes is a spin off of the Closer. LOVE this program. But as in true television fashion, it will go away and be replaced by some mind numbing reality TV show. Please TNT, don’t let this one go just yet and order a “complete full season”.
Oh hell yes MAJOR CRIMES should be renewed, it is one of the best shows with one of the most outstanding casts on television. Dragging out a continuing crime storyline over three or four episodes has not helped it however. The series works best with a new crime each week. Bravo MAJOR CRIMES.
One of the better shows on TV. Keep it going!
Absolutely love the cast of Major Crimes, but have to say have not enjoyed this season as much as previous ones.
I hope the show continues for several more seasons. Major Crimes, in my opinion, is the best show on television. Great acting, great story lines, a touch of humor. It has everything.
Still one of my favorite shows on TV. Loving the new storyline about the old case/new case/ Mike’s old partner. Was disappointed to hear Sharon was considering new job with 3x’s the pay. That is indicator that the show might end. I love this show!
