Though its viewership has been quite small, Manahattan has been renewed for a second season on WGN America. The period TV show’s first season finale airs this Sunday night.
Set in 1943, Manhattan follows the residents of a secret town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hidden away by the federal government, scientists live there with their families while they work to build the world’s first atomic bomb. The cast includes John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Alexia Fast, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Daniel Stern, Katja Herbers, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus, Eddie Shin, Daniel London, and Mark Moses.
The 11 episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 420,000 viewers. The cable channel is still very new to producing their own scripted series so likely has low expectations at this point.
What do you think? Do you like the Manhattan TV show? Do you plan to watch season two?
Great show! WGN doesn’t do enough to promote this show or its network. No wonder viewership was low. I stumbled upon this show and I’m glad I did. Not only are we getting a bit of a history lesson but the writers have created very complex and interesting characters to tell that lesson. The set and costume designs are outstanding along with the cast of actors. Excellent directing too.
Watched the 1st season & looking forward to the 2nd. Enjoyed this period historical piece. Thx
I really enjoy this series and look forward each week to viewing . the unfolding drama of this period piece. Good shows are hard to find regarding history and Manhattan delivers. Grateful viewer for renewal of season 2.
great show, keep it coming
I thought this show was entertaining, informative, and I like how they play the part of cold war so well. I think its a must watch series. It is history. Remember, we are the only country to use nukes against an enemy.
It was ,for lack of a better phrase overkill. It did stop the war though.
I’m not sure what “overkill” means Dan. Were the 2,500 Folks killed (let alone thousands wounded) during Peace Time in Pearl Harbor or the 3,000 in Peace Time on 9/11 in NYC/DC or many Philippinos killed in days leading up to the Bataan Death March or the 6 million Jews of the Holocaust…OVERKILL? Be that as it may, I urge all reading this to come to the museums in Albuquerque http://www.nuclearmuseum.org/or Los Alamos http://www.lanl.gov/museum/index.php to stand by “casings” for Fat Man http://tinyurl.com/nnerp68 & Little Boy http://tinyurl.com/o7m36vy and imagine crawling atop them to put your arms just half way around them!!!!… Read more »
This was a very enjoyable show, especially since there were some family links to some of the things taking place. I really enjoy period pieces anyway and this was very well done. I’m looking forward to Season 2 and many more.
Great series. I am in late 60’s and my uncle worked in Oak Ridge, Tenn during WW2. Excellent cast and screenwriting as well as production and directing. The reason the viewership is low is that people my age not raised in Illinois have not heard of it nor have any idea ilit exist. Thx
I loved season one, and hope there is a season 2
Just saw on KOAT.com ‘s morning news show in Albuquerque, that there is a Casting Call for “Manhattan”. “Veterans, young scientists, housewives, secretaries. Email OLCMantattan@gmail.com with recent photo, name, contact info.” That’s all that was reported.
my son and I watch it and realty like it. We plan to watch next season.
I really enjoyed this show! It was like watching history I knew nothing about come alive. I’m anxiously awaiting season 2 & hope there will be several more.
Season 2 UPDATE: Have received word from ‘WGN Programming’ that we, herein, will be back in Los Alamos on an as yet unspecified date in OCTOBER. As such http://tinyurl.com/mcb7axg

Great show. I hope they make five seasons.
I love Manhatten. My husband and I are looking forward to season 2
Me too
I recently saw an ad noting “A Fall Premier” for Season 2. I’ve emailed WGN, but have not as yet received a response that their previously advised return in July has been changed. Elsewise: Mitote as we say in New Mexico and a Possible Spoiler Alert: Mamie Gummer, as previously seen on The Good Wife, will venture up The Hill to portray Nora, a beautiful, street-smart spy sent to serve as a liaison to Jim Meeks. She will employ her personality/sexuality to pass atomic secrets to the Soviets. In addition, Bill Peterson, seen recently on CSI, will “play Colonel Emmett… Read more »
