What’s next for Mary Kills People? Global just announced production has begun on the TV show’s third season.
The Canadian drama, which aired its first two seasons on Lifetime in the U.S., centers on Dr. Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas), a physician and single mother also operates a mercy-killing business on the side. The cast also includes Jay Ryan and Richard Short.
Season three of Mary Kills People is slated to premiere on Global Television in Canada this spring. However, the third season will not air on Lifetime in the U.S. since the network is shifting its programming focus to original movies.
At the moment, it’s unclear where the third and final season of Mary Kills People will air (if it does) in the U.S. You can read more about season three from Global below:
Toronto, Canada – The conflicting choice between life and death is at the forefront one last time as Global announced today the start of production on the third and final chapter of the critically acclaimed drama Mary Kills People. From Canadian broadcaster and production partner Corus Entertainment, with Entertainment One (eOne) and Cameron Pictures Inc., the provocative event series (6×60) created by Tara Armstrong will film in and around Toronto this winter, with the premiere set for spring 2019 on Global.
“As we begin production on the final instalment in the Mary Kills People saga, we’d like to thank both eOne and Cameron Pictures for their collaboration in bringing this story to life,” said Lisa Godfrey, Vice President of Original Content, Corus Entertainment. “Our appreciation and gratitude extends to the profoundly talented cast, crew, and creative team for helping Global deliver audiences one of our most insightfully thought-provoking dramas.”
Following last season’s shocking finale, that left the fate of Detective Ben Wesley (Jay Ryan) up in the air, Dr. Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas), along with her partner Dr. Desmond “Des” Bennett (Richard Short), return to face the complications of running their newly established “death retreat”. New casting this season features Canadian actresses Elizabeth Saunders (Alias Grace, It) as a nurse who complicates Mary’s life, and Rachael Ancheril (Rookie Blue, Wynonna Earp) as a patient at the hospice with the desire to live a little before she dies. Leading the way behind the scenes is the multi-talented powerhouse team including co-showrunners and executive producers Tassie Cameron and Marsha Greene, executive producer Amy Cameron, and directors Norma Bailey, James Genn, and Paul Fox. The series was created by Tara Armstrong.
“From its inception, Mary Kills People has been a creative thrill ride. Working with Cameron Pictures, Global, and the outstanding cast on this series continues to be incredibly rewarding,” said Jocelyn Hamilton, eOne’s President, Canada, Television. “We share in the anticipation with our fans for the culmination of this wholly original bold series. Going into production means we are closer to getting the answers left from the suspenseful Season 2 finale.”
In a joint statement, Amy and Tassie Cameron of Cameron Pictures said, “We are so grateful to our viewers around the world for joining us on this incredible run of Mary Kills People. We are extremely proud of this series and of our amazing cast and crew who work tirelessly to bring this show to life, and we’re excited to deliver a thrilling, surprising, emotional final season.”
In the third and final chapter of Mary Kills People, Dr. Mary Harris must come face-to-face with her own personal choices, ethics, and demons in a way she never has before. The death retreat is up and running, but its cover as a legitimate hospice is crumbling away and with it the idyllic vision Mary and Des had for continuing their work in quiet secrecy. With Mary’s family and the work she loves in jeopardy once more, she realizes she is finally going to have to put life, with all of its complexities and imperfections, first.
In anticipation of the final chapter, viewers can watch the first and second season of Mary Kills People on GlobalTV.com or Global GO (available for Apple TV, Google Chromecast, and Amazon Fire TV).
Mary Kills People is produced by eOne and Cameron Pictures Inc., in association with Corus Entertainment, and with the financial participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. The series is executive produced by Tassie Cameron (Ten Days in The Valley, Rookie Blue), Amy Cameron (The Book of Negroes), Marsha Greene (Ten Days in the Valley, Private Eyes), Jocelyn Hamilton (Private Eyes), Tecca Crosby (Private Eyes), and Caroline Dhavernas (Hannibal). The series was created by Tara Armstrong (Private Eyes). It will be directed by Norma Bailey, James Genn, and Paul Fox. Writers include Tassie Cameron, Marsha Greene, Jane Maggs, Matt Huether, Karen Moore, and Chris Roberts. For Corus, Susan Alexander is Production Executive; Rachel Nelson is Director, Original Content, Drama, Kids and Factual; Lisa Godfrey is Vice President of Original Content, Corus Entertainment.”
What do you think? Have you seen Mary Kills People? Will you watch season three?
I hope they finish filming it and someone shows it! Very interesting and different show. I really enjoyed the first two seasons and am looking forward to the final season.
My wife and I have become avid fans of this show. It delves into the very socially taboo topic of assisted suicide while adding mystery and intrigue with detective pursuit. All with our heroine trying to live a normal life of being a single mom/murderess in the eyes of the law. Well acted for the most part, well written as well. Where you come down on the issue is only complicated by the stories themselves. I hope this gets picked-up by some network in the U.S. market or HULU or some other streamer.
My husband and I watched it on Global from the start and we LOVED it. The characters are amazing and how they all mixed with each other is great. Sad to see that season 3 will be the last but happy they will let us watch the ending. Especially good as so many people are using this option in reality. Thank you to all the cast and crew for wonderful and exciting TV. A true Canadian fan.
Looks like I will not be getting into this show at all.
I was looking forward to it.
Even though it is ending it is still so very worth the watch, you will not be disappointed.
I love this show and hope there will be a way for me to watch finale season 3 in the States… I really wish it wasn’t ending. It is such an original and timely show about a very complex and difficult life choice that we should all be able to talk about when necessary. Quality of life versus Quantity of life.
Absolutely love this show!! So now the U.S. is left hanging with no ending for those of us who dedicated an hour of their time each week of taping or watching (the night of the broadcast) one of our favorite shows!! Somehow that doesn’t seem fair. Oh but Canada gets to see season 3! SOMEONE PLEASE BRING MARY BACK TO U.S. CABLE!!!
Very sad to see it end. Amazing show … absolute loved it ❤️❤️
A very underrated and greatly under publicised/promoted show.
Agreed. It was one of our favorite series ever!
I love this show. I hope We TV. Or Bravo pick it up. Lifetime had a winner with this show and the message it provides is great. Why have to suffer? Don’t we all suffer on a daily basis and struggle to survive. Peace at death is a gift and Mary lets us have that hope
HELL YEAH.I WATCHED THE FIRST AND SECOND.IT WAS VERY CAPTIVATING AND CLOSE TOP PROBLEMS I STRUGGLE WITH.I JUMPED UP AND DOWN THGIS MORNING WHEN I READ THE LAST SEASON IS COMING.LOVE THE SHOW!
I absolutely love this show!!! Its wonderfully written and the acting is excellent!! I’m disappointed that Lifetime is not going to be carring this in the U. S. so I wont be able to see
the final installment of this fabulous show!! Thanks a lot Lifetime!!!
Waiting patiently for Season 3 and disappointed that it is the fonal season. Then they.say we might not see season 3 just made me mad!!! I love this show so of course they are taking ot off!!! It never fails!! Unless it is a reality show they will drop it!! I am fed up with the powers that be!!
Liked season one and two disappointed I won’t get to see season three.
This sucks. I really liked the show. Yes, the last season was not as good as the first. However, they could at least let us see the third season. They need more good tv shows as opposed to these same old type of movies they show
every week. This teen getting in trouble and suspect her boyfriend or Dad of being a killer. Boring!!
Of course waiting for this to happen.
I think Hulu will air the final season of Mary Kills People in America.
I hope so
Please DO, Hulu!!!!!!!!
