Aw heck, this is good news. ABC has renewed The Middle TV show for a ninth season!
A Midwestern sitcom featuring the Heck family, The Middle stars Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer. Creators Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline executive produce the series.
The renewal comes as little surprise. ABC had enough faith in The Middle, that after seven seasons on Wednesday night, it moved the comedy to Tuesdays at 8:00pm to anchor the Tuesday evening comedy block.
As of January 17th, the eighth season of The Middle was averaging a 1.59 rating in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and an audience of 6.379 million viewers. While those numbers are down 15.96% and 12.95% respectively over season seven, according to the network, The Middle is doing better than any show in that time slot since the 2011-12 television season.

ABC RENEWS HIT COMEDY SERIES ‘THE MIDDLE’ FOR SEASON NINE
ABC has renewed the hit comedy series “The Middle” for next season. It was announced today by Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. The show is currently in its eighth season on the network.
“‘The Middle’ has been one of the network’s most consistent performers and helped us to launch a whole new night of comedy when it moved to Tuesdays this season,” said Dungey. “The Indiana Hecks have found America’s sweet spot with their authentic, acerbic and always loving take on parenting, work, kids, marriage and life.”
Since its debut in 2009 when it helped launch ABC’s hit Wednesday night comedy block, “The Middle” has been a strong performer and a dependable anchor in the 8 o’clock hour. In its move this season from Wednesday to Tuesday night in the 8:00 p.m. anchor position, “The Middle” launched yet another successful comedy block, with ABC claiming Tuesday’s top comedies this season. Improving its half-hour by 22% year to year with Total Viewers, “The Middle” is ABC’s most watched comedy in the Tuesday time period in 5 years – since 2011-12 with the debut season of “Last Man Standing.”
Two-time Emmy-winner Patricia Heaton stars in this warm and witty single-camera comedy about raising a family and lowering your expectations. Middle-aged, middle class and living in the middle of the country in Orson, Indiana, Frankie Heck is a harried wife and mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humor to get her family through each day intact. Frankie works as a dental assistant, and her unflappable husband, Mike, is manager at the local quarry and her sardonic partner in the daily grind that is raising their average – yes, most definitely average – family.
“The Middle” stars Patricia Heaton as Frankie, Neil Flynn as Mike, Charlie McDermott as Axl, Eden Sher as Sue and Atticus Shaffer as Brick.
“The Middle” was created and is executive produced by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline. The series is from Warner Bros. Television.

What do you think? Are you surprised ABC has renewed The Middle for season nine, or were you expecting it? How long do you think this TV show will last?
I am so HAPPY that they are going to have a 9th season. I don’t want it to end. This show is one of the few left that doesn’t contain inappropriate content. Thanks for keeping in on as long as you have. I have enjoyed many LOL moments!
So happy finally end crappy comedy been terrible long time period sick of it need to end. It final season done after this season.
So glad it is continuing. I often see my own family in this show when my kids were younger. Very few shows left to watch the are so enjoyable without having a focus on sex, immoral lifestyles, crimes, or murders. Glad the network recognizes that.
This has been my FAVORITE show since it started. Absolutely LOVE it!!!! I even watch all the reruns and have DVD’S. I never get tired of it!!! Hope it does like 20 seasons!!! ❤❤❤
I agree!!!
This is a wonderful family friendly sitcom. Superb acting…Eden Sher is underrated and deserves an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Sue Heck.
Never miss the show. Great news.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
