Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

i too have barely gotten into moonlight. i had never heard of it before until my aunt let me borrow the season on dvd and i LOVED it!! why havent i heard of it before??? and actually no one else i know has heard of it either…. they obviously didnt advertise well at all. i mean vamps are so in right now how could this show not do well?? they pulled the plug way too early PLEASE BRING IT BACK! dont leave us hanging on how it all ends….i KNOW it will do sooooo well if you do trust me….everyone… Read more »
Season two Moonlight, as many have said Supernatural lasted and with a chance so would Moonlight.
To cut moonlight is wrong as there was to many questions unanswered in Season one.
Please listen to the Moonlight fans and restore Moonlight, it may work out better than you think.
If you can not return Moonlight, please ensure Season two gets to dvd.

I am devastated moonlight has ended! Please bring back a season 2 it had a gr8 storyline i think if it was promoted a bit more it would defo attract more viewers, moonlight had everything good stories and sex appeal im soooooo going to miss mick st john please please bring back another series xxxxx
I was so disappointed when they cancelled Moonlight. I too had just gotten into it. I hope it can be ressurected!!! Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaasssse!!!
The end of the series seemed so rushed like they were tying up the loose ends of the plot. Before it had been a gradual build up of the two main characters Mick and Beth and it kinda spoilt it when they had to finish up the storyline quick and rush to end the series.
I really ,reallyhope they bring it back.
Those ********! I recently got into this show and it should’ve been continued. There was so much just opening up, plus it has Josef. The show would have survived on the CW. Supernatural did, so this one would’ve. If the networks have any brains at all, they will bring back a season 2, or at least a movie.

I can’t believe they arn’t filming a season 2 I started watch moonlight half way through the first season and feel in love with it. so i brought the first season and loved ever eposide and wanted to keep watching it but now you are not filming any more. I gave it to my friends to watch and they throught it was one of the best TV series around, so they went out and brought their own copy. Given more of a chance to grow overseas, moonlight would have rose close to true blood, if not more. the storyline was brilliant and season 2 would have brought the audience, especially in australia. give it another chance.
Actually it was one of the better shows I’ve seen and I absolutely loved it. With all the vampire shows out how can u not think it won’t work anyways as far as the cw goes I love that channel maybe y’all should sell the show to them and when you see how good the ratings are you can sit back and think of how stupid your network was!
Hi! i have been following Moonlight. I really don’t get the point of not renewing it… or am i just so dumb not realizing it… but i could be patient enough if one day they’ll renew it… oh! pls do!!!
i think there should be a second season of moonlight because the vampire fascination is the thing at the moment with films like twilight and tv shows true blood and the vampira diaries. and also may i add the guys are hot and it was a great show with the forbidding love between vampire and humans xx
I’m 14 and I love the show, it was flipping amazing, me and my mum used to sit down every monday night and watch it, we were both really upset when it was over :'(

and everyone i know who’ve seen the series, do want a second season
and now with the succes off the twilight movies,
the world is ready for a second moonlight season.
you just have to promote it properly,
the reason people don’t watch it,
is because people don’t know moonlight exist.
and besides the whole series is screeming for a second season.
there are to many questions left open.

omg, I really was a great show and I can’t imagine that there are so few people watching this show, cause it’s just great..
