TV show description:
An adaptation of the Stephen King novel, the Mr. Mercedes TV show comes from executive producers King, David E. Kelly, and Jack Bender. This hardboiled detective drama centers on a deranged murderer and his provocation of a retired police officer.
Although he was once a respected police detective, Bill Hodges (Gleeson) had been spending his retirement drinking beer, hollering at neighborhood children, and caring for his pet tortoise. Now that he’s being haunted by an unsolved case, all that will change.
While he’s extremely intelligent, it is obvious that Brady Hartsfield (Treadway) is just not right. When he’s not working at Supreme Electronix, or as a Friendly’s Frosteeez ice cream truck driver, he puts his technological skills to work, for malevolent purposes.
Under the pen name, “Mr. Mercedes,” Brady decides to send a series of emails and letters to Bill. Just prior to his retirement, someone stole a Mercedes Benz from the now deceased Olivia Trelawney (Cusack) and drove it into a crowd.
Trelawney left behind a determined sister, Janey Patterson (Parker) and their observant, yet innocent cousin, Holly Gibney (Lupe). Janey is practical, charismatic, and beautiful. Living somewhere on the Autism spectrum, Holly is a tech genius, despite having OCD, Synesthesia, and Sensory Processing Disorder.
Mr. Mercedes’ letters reveal unpublicized specifics about the crime. Their gruesome details goad the former cop to initiate a private push to apprehend the killer, before he takes another life.
An alcoholic with a pathologically obsessive love for her son, Brady’s mother, Deborah (Lynch) “cares for” her boy in an extremely inappropriate manner. The closest thing Brady has to a friendship, is with his snarky co-worker, Lou Linklater (Wool). A rebel, she does not put up with homophobia, not even from customers at Supreme Electronix.
Thanks to his second job as an ice cream driver, Brady is able to keep an eye on Bill, as well as his neighbors, like vocal Ida Silver (Taylor). Ida is candid to the point of being blunt with Bill, even when he doesn’t want her opinion.
Then there’s Harvard-bound Jerome Robinson (Jerome). Despite being a smart-ass, he’s a good neighbor. He mows Bill’s lawn and helps him when he is having computer issues. When doing so, he gets drawn into Bill’s crusade against the Mercedes killer. Can they stop him, before he strikes again?
