Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

Bring it back!!!!! I was looking forward to the rest of the episodes! It was definitely one of the better new shows in the fall line up…
Honestly this was my favorite new show of the fall, and i’m really upset to see that it has been cancelled. I hope somehow I get to see the remaining episodes. ABC Should really consider sticking with this show, its different from all the rest, and once people see it they will want to keep watching.
I really enjoyed that show and expected to see it before grey’s anatomy. Sadly to my dismay I found out the show my generation was cancelled. I believe they should’ve let a few more episodes air before making the final decision to cut it. I want to see whatever episodes they didn’t air either on dvd or the internet.
I am SO BUMMED. I LOVED My Generation. I was searching madly for it last Thursday and could not understand why a repeat of Grey’s Anatomy was on. How could they cancel it already?!! It was really extremely well done and so interesting. I was starting to care about the characters and after only seeing two shows that is saying a lot. How maddening not getting to find out what happens to them!
I was just searching for this show on my guide and couldn’t find it. I then came on here to find out that, unfortunately, a refreshingly different show had been cancelled. This was a really dumb move and ABC should’ve given the show a shot at getting a fan base before cancelling it.
It was a REALLY great show. I fully understand the series due to the fact that it is MY generation. I graduated in 2000 too. It was nice to see that people would make a show on tv reguarding and remembering that year. After all this is OUR 10 year high school reunion. I was VERY dissapointed to find out that this show got canceled. I would definatly buy a dvd to see the full season. I still would like to enjoy the rest of it.
My Generation was great, it had a interesting concept with many opportunities for continuing the stories each person, it was presented in a really cool way, why cancel it so early at least give a show half a season, two episodes really? ABC really let me down on this one, now what to do with my extra hour on thursdays…
What the heck??!! I really liked this show. 2 episodes. What a disappointment ABC. Thumbs down.
I was really suprised My Generation was cancelled!!! My brother and I started watching it together and totally loved it!! We are sad it was cancelled, I feel like they didn’t even give them a chance- it was a great show!!!
I absolutely HATE that ABC has cancelled My Generation!!!! What a GREAT show!! Please go to another network or something…I know many of my friends and I would be loyal viewers! ABC you REALLY messed up this time!
My kids and I are so sad this show was cancelled!!!! We really enjoyed it and watched it together. When does that happen anymore??!!! BRING IT BACK!! At least let us see the remaining episodes. So much of the same old/same old on tv – nice to have a change of pace that was good.
I can’t believe it!!! I really thought it was a great show. It was nice to see a modern version of the UP SERIES. Do the networks ever listen to the people. Should we all send our complaints to ABC?
Seriously? Why cancel the new show My Generation? IF ABC cancels, then go to another NETWORK. ABC made a mistake! I guess the Network exec wants viewers to watch NBC or CBS. (no problem)
In a season filled with cop shows and “the same old thing”, this show was a welcome change. It seems as if we all have to watch the same thing and if the masses don’t all flock to a new show, it gets the ax. I realize money is a factor, but give it a chance or quit putting on things that need an ending that we never get.
I think it is sad that the networks “pull the plug” so quickly on tv shows. Is it really a money issue? Can’t a show earn an audience slowly? Often times, that defines loyalty. It seems that the quick profit is the goal here, barely giving an audience time to find a show that they may end up loving.
