Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

I loved this show!! I can’t believe they canceled it after 2 episodes!!! I knew it was going to get good after the pilot! I hope they put on another station or DVD!!! I’ll definitely buy the DVD!
It seems that the the eggheads that ran NBC in the earlier part of this decade was hired by ABC. ABC you SUCK!. This show was different and should have been given at least a 16 week/ episode run. I’m telling you folks it is getting really frustrating when networks continue to have no regards for viewer. Think about all the shows you’ve loved over the years and were willing to give your time to watch, you and the show were not given a chance. I’ll bet you can come up with a good list. ABC is closing in on… Read more »
ABC you are a bunch of damn morons!!!! What a great show, are you seriously nuts?? This would have NO DOUBT been a huge hit, why not give the damn show a chance??
Such a great show. But the time slot set it up for failure against Vampire Diaries. Change the time slot or put it on a different night – BAM. It would have been a hit. I watched both shows on-line the next day after they came out. Wonder if a lot of people were watching on-line?
Im so upset Abc cancelled this great show! My Generation was a different show to watch and deserved to be on the abc line up. Abc didnt give the show time to get viewers they justcancel great show like these. Such as pushing dasises, east wick. I would love to see a dvd on this show, im dying to see the rest of this show. Abc should have given this show a chance.
Seriously This Is Got To a Publicity Stunt!!! Canceled Already? I almost Dont want to watch Abc’s Pilots Because They Leave Me Hanging
I am so sad about this cancellation. I thought finally an interesting show without dead bodies. I would love to see the remaining 8 episodes somehow – bring it back!!! Put it on FOX.
I was so distraught when I turned on the tv at 8 to see a rerun of Greys and not My Generation. I was so pumped about this show, and am sad to see it left unfinished. There were so many good twists and cool plot lines. Maybe it was put on a bad night? They pulled it too soon, BRING IT BAAAACCCCKKKK!
I can’t believe they actually canceled it. I really thought it was the best show ever made. What a shame. So intelligent and simple yet so emotional and educational. It really puts reality on the screen like I have never seen before.

This show was getting good! why would you cancel it right in the beginning. come on!!
I would most definitely watch the remaining episodes. I loved the show!!!
I think the show should go on another station like FOX or NBC. Those stations seem to have better taste anyways. I hate you ABC!!!
I’m so frustrated that ABC is canceling this show! What a tease because during the second episode you really see how this story is starting to unravel and how many different paths it could go down. And everyone that I have talked to has loved the show and is shocked that it is being canceled. So I don’t get it? 🙁 I hope they show the rest online.
ABC needs to take a chance, now you are going to see all the creative shows move to Cable Networks main network shows on ABC, CBS, and NBC are all crime drama’s, hospital drama’s, laugh track sitcoms, and reality shows. ABC took a chance with LOST but creative shows like Dexter, United States of Tara, Nurse Jackie, Boardwalk Empire, Weeds, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Burn Notice, White Collar etc. Every now and then you get a creative concept on Network TV like House, Bones, 24, Lost, Prison Break, GLEE, Modern Family but with CBS winning the Ratings war with crappy… Read more »
This horrible!! Such a good show, even after just two episodes. Feels like I’ve known them all for so long! These un-aired episodes need to be put online or sold on DVD!!!
