A couple months ago, we reported that the head of ABC expected Nashville to be renewed for a fifth season. However, there’s been a big change at the network so now there’s a distinct possibility that Nashville may be cancelled instead. Is it time?
The Nashville TV show continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). The rest of the cast includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Eric Close, Jonathan Jackson, Chris Carmack, Lennon Stella, Sam Palladio, Maisy Stella, Will Chase, and Oliver Hudson.
Currently in its fourth season, Nashville is down in the ratings once again. Compared to season three (which was also down), the show is down by 22% in the 18-49 demographic and down by 14% in viewers. It’s also one of ABC’s lowest rated dramatic series.
Back in January, ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee said that there was no plans to end Nashville. The catch is that Lee was later forced out of the network. He was fired in part because he had failed to develop successful new shows and had relied too much on older ones. Many of those have slowly lost viewers and become more expensive to produce.
Lee’s replacement, Channing Dungey, has been tasked with turning the network around and that will likely mean cleaning house. ABC recently announced several renewals for the 2016-17 season and Nashville was not among them.
I suspect that ABC may decide to renew the series for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes. Hopefully, if it is decided to end Nashville this spring, the show’s creators will have found a satisfying way to end the show.
But, what do you think? Is it time for Nashville to end? Should it be renewed for a fifth (and final) season?
PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE DO NOT STOP THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT AND WANT TO BUY ALL THEIR MUSIC. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!@!!
Please, please don’t stop the show. Make a season 5,6,7,8 etc. etc. Watching it in the Netherlands NETFLIX and it is the best show since a long time. Juliette and Avery are the best story line but love everybody!
Nashville is one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen in a long time. The show is well written, has compelling story lines and the music is flat out amazing. I’ve played the music for some of my non-watching friends and they wonder why they’ve never heard of this show. I have one friend watching Nashville from the beginning on Hulu because of ONE song I played for her. I agree with other posters that the long mid-season breaks are not productive; however, please please don’t cancel my favorite tv show. Renew Nashville for season 5!!!!!!
I LOVE Nashville, please don’t cancel it. SAVE it for all us Nashville lovers,
You can not have a 3 month break and expect a great show to so well in the ratings. You need to renew if for no other reason than to have closure for the characters that we have come to love/hate. RENEW…………..then don’t kill us with reruns and long breaks.
I have been saying and I still say that Nashville needs a new time-slot. To have a drama follow four sit-coms has never been wise. People are up with their kids, they enjoy the sit-coms, then they go to bed. Nashville is a drama dealing with controversially topics such as sex, homosexuality, drug use and just recently underage sex. Nashville is a great drama, but to have that follow family type sitcoms is unwise, to say the least. Changing Nashville’s time can save the show and increase it’s rating numbers.
I think the long breaks during the season promote a lose in viewer interest . It certainly has for me
I have always enjoyed the show. BUT, it keeps getting soapier and soapier until it might as well be on daytime television. The music has taken a back seat to the personal melodrama, and I am very disappointed to see that.,It was the music and the music world that was so fascinating and made Nashville unique. If there is a fifth season, the plots need to return to the music roots. No wonder you’ve been losing viewers.
A few clunky plotlines aside, I do enjoy this show. The music is outstanding and I would miss it if it ended. More than that however, I’m weary of TV networks that cancel decent shows without a thought for the viewers who have watched faithfully. My kids may be right–drop cable and learn to appreciate the smorgasbord of streaming services.
OMG. Here you go again, ABC. Another of your best shows is on the chopping block and why????????????????? Blood and Oil is gone, and now this? You really don’t have a clue, at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blood and Oil sucked. It had a great cast but was a terrible show. Nashville on the other hand is loaded with talent and a wonderful show. I wish ABC would get rid of the silly sitcoms. The need to give Nashville better lead in shows like they do on Thursdays.
Please do not cancel Nashville. Love the characters, the acting, especially the music. Its one of the best shows on TV. Please renew the show and let it continue. I have many friends who watch the show. I hate those demographics–who knows if they are right.
Cancel it.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL NASHVILLE! THIS SHOW DEPICTS REAL LIFE! PAIN, HAPPINESS, LOVE, LOSS, NEW LIFE, DREAMS, WISHES AND HOPES, DISAPPOINTMENT, SUCCESSES AND FAILINGS THEN MORE SUCCESS! PEOPLE COMING INTO YOUR LIFE FOR A MOMENT, AN HOUR, A WEEK, MONTH, YEAR AND OR A LIFETIME. PLEASE KERP NASHVILLE ALIVE!!!
Please do not cancel Nashville. It is a terrific show – drama-wonderful music and musicians, and great actors!!!can’t believe you’d not renew it.
Please do not cancel this show. It’s so good and the story line is great! If they hired this new guy to bring ratings up, then why can’t he do that for Nashville also? The music is great also along with the actors, please do not cancel it and instead make it even better for the ratings.
