Mark Harmon has signed a contract extension to stay on NCIS so, to no surprise to anyone, CBS has renewed the top-rated TV series for an 11th season.
NCIS is the network’s fourth-highest rated TV series in the 18-49 demo (behind The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and 2 Broke Girls) with a 3.4 rating. It’s also CBS’ most-watched show by a longshot, currently averaging 19.31 million viewers each week. The episode on the 15th drew a whopping 22.86 million.
Word is that Harmon signed a two-year contract so it looks like a sure thing that NCIS will be back for a 12th year as well.
Here’s the press release from CBS:
CBS ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR “NCIS” STAR AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MARK HARMON “NCIS,” TELEVISION’S #1 SERIES AND A GLOBAL LEADER, IS RENEWED FOR 2013-2014 SEASON
CBS announced today a new contract extension for NCIS star and executive producer Mark Harmon, and that the U.S. and global ratings phenomenon NCIS has been renewed for the 2013-2014 season.
“In a world gone niche, NCIS keeps getting bigger, and Mark Harmon continues to define the role of leading man on the #1 show on television,” said Leslie Moonves, President and Chief Executive Officer, CBS Corporation. “NCIS is the type of franchise every company wants in today’s global content ecosystem – high-quality storytelling that generates passionate viewers and drives revenue on every conceivable platform.”
Currently in its 10th season, NCIS continues to hit ratings milestones. This season, for the first time ever, it ranks as television’s #1 program (ahead of Sunday Night Football). NCIS is averaging 21.48 million viewers, up +7% over last year and is the highest-rated drama among adults 25-54 (5.9/15), while averaging 4.2/12 in adults 18-49. The series delivered its second-largest live plus same day audience on Jan. 15, averaging 22.86 million viewers. That total soared to 25.36 million viewers with L+3 day lift, marking the first NCIS broadcast to deliver more than 25 million viewers with live plus 3-day lift or live plus 7-day lift.
NCIS is also an international hit, licensed in more than 200 markets. It is the #1 series on M6 in France, the #1 U.S. series on Rai2 in Italy and the #2 U.S. series overall, the #1 U.S. series on TV3 in Sweden, the #2 U.S. series on LaSexta in Spain, the #2 U.S. drama on Network Ten in Australia and the #3 U.S. series on Sat1 in Germany.
In domestic syndication, NCIS is broadcast on USA Network and ranks as cable’s #1 off-network drama.
NCIS premiered on CBS in 2003-2004. Since its debut, NCIS’s ratings have steadily climbed, finishing 2008-2009 ranked fifth among all primetime programs. During the 2009-2010 season it became the #1 drama/scripted program on television, and has remained the #1 drama ever since.
NCIS stars Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, Rocky Carroll, Brian Dietzen and David McCallum. Gary Glasberg, Chas. Floyd Johnson, Mark Horowitz, Mark Harmon, Shane Brennan, George Schenck, Frank Cardea and Donald P. Bellisario are executive producers for Belisarius Productions in association with CBS Television Studios.
Mark Harmon is represented by Paradigm and attorney Barry Axelrod.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that NCIS will be back next season? How long do you think the show should continue? Forever?
I about had a heart attack when I watched this today. I work third shift and this was the first opportunity I had to watch it. Was so terrified when I saw final three episodes I had to come on the computer and make sure my show wasn’t canceled. If anybody dies I honestly believe I will be traumatized. Please Please keep my show WITH the same people. 🙂
Me TOO!!!
My feelings exactly.
I did the same thing.
I know “All good things
must cone to an end”, but
I sure don’t want NCIS to
end anytime soon!
I think that 2013-2014 tony and ziva should end up together. Gibbs should find love and they should find zivas fathers killer.
I love NCIS and it is my favorite TV show. I’m soooooo happy it’s coming back for an 11th season.
Me to NCIS is my favorite show that I never miss, I like to watch all the reruns on USA all the time!!
The storyline and character development un this
show are a masterpiece.
I have never missed an episode of this series since
The Jag pilot. Absolutely top notch the way each
Episode is a story of its own while introducing
Sublime groundwork for future episodes and
Connecting to there characters past. Should go
Easily another 2 years and I hope more ! Love
This show !
they should go another year maybe too.then end were tony and ziva and abby and magee get together and jethro (harmon) finds a true love he doesnt divorce.none of the main characters better die cause if they do i and everyone i no will stop watching it and i no lots of people.
i agree with all you said.
i think NCSI should go another year and end were tony and ziva get together and abby and magee hook up and of course jethro (harmon) has to find a true love he doesnt divorce. so this could take 2 more years which would be great.but they better not kill off anyone of the main cast because i will stop watching it and so will everyone i no.which is alot of poeple.
I love all the shows characters and would love to see this show continue on.i just truelly love it.please don’t let it end.
NCIS is one of the best shows on television. When we saw the remark “final three episodes” I was afraid it was being cancelled. I guess it’s just the finally three for this season. Keep it going, between this and “Person of Interest” they are the best two shows on TV.
I forgot to mention that I love the case and enjoy seeing David McCallum and the little remarks about his character on The Man From UNCLE. I am 65. If you have never seen the show, you will not understand the comments/remarks. Love to all the cast.
I really, really love this show. It is my #1 hit on my hit parade. I think it should go on forever. If not, then you better make it a 6-hour final to tie up all the loose ends. You know, who get with who and all that. There should be no what if’s.
They should keep it going as long as GIBBS (Mark Harmon) still stays as the main character. I’ve been a fan since season1 and will stop watching if he is no longer the lead actor.
NCIS is by far the best television show on. You won’t find any better! I’m so glad it’s being renewed for another season and hope it continues on forever even though I know that can’t be the case. The cast is phenomenal! I can think of only 2 other shows from my lifetime that had the same like- ability and that you can connect with. This will be a show that will last the test of time like MASH and Cosby Show. It’s the type of show where you actually want to meet the cast and want to be friends… Read more »
Great to hear. I have been a fan of this show since the beginning when it was a spin-off of another great CBS show JAG which lasted 10 years. However with JAG the last couple seasons seemed to be a little drawn out and seemed like they were just kind of mailing in the episodes, which to me is unlike what has happened with NCIS. I think it has only gotten better and has adapted well over the course of the series. I feel the biggest reason for this is that David Bellisario hasn’t left the show like he did… Read more »

I liked NCIS until this past year. I just quit watching last week. It’s going nowhere and while I like the NCIS gang, the plots are tired. I didn’t think it’d be renewed again now that there’s 10 seasons for syndication.
Enough with the ageist spin!! NCI is (by far) the #1 show on television. It’s sad that CBS feels compelled to break down its audience by age group to have their PR releases match the other networks, but it’s clear they are not hyping demo numbers. Why then devalue the amazing success that is NCIS (I’ll repeat because for some reason journalists can seem to be able to say it – it’s the #1 SHOW ON TELEVISION!!) by trying to make it look smaller than it is when you spend all other hours trying to make flops like Fringe look… Read more »
I totally agree with you 100%.
