Last year, fans sat down for the NCIS TV show’s season premiere knowing it was already renewed for another installment on CBS. As season 15 dawns, there is no such assurance. While there may be no need to worry that the most-watched network will cancel its most-watched scripted TV series, after a while, shows (i.e. the writers and actors) can run out of steam. Not all decisions to end successful TV series are directly ratings dependent. Still, given their druthers, most people like to go out on top. Will NCIS be renewed for another season or end here? Stay tuned.
A military police procedural drama, NCIS, stars Mark Harmon, Sean Murray, Emily Wickersham, Pauley Perrette, Wilmer Valderrama, Maria Bello, Brian Dietzen, Duane Henry, Rocky Carroll, and David McCallum. The CBS action series centers on NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Harmon). This skilled investigator and former Marine gunnery sergeant leads a team of colorful personalities as they investigate crimes with ties to either the United States Navy or Marine Corps. **Status update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly on the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/23 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The 14th season of NCIS averaged a 1.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.619 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the NCIS TV series? Did you think it would be be cancelled or renewed for season 16 on CBS? How much longer would you like to see this TV show run?
**4/13/2018 update: NCIS is renewed for season 16 on CBS. Details here.
I love the show! After just voting to renew NCIS New Orleans I was shocked to see NCIS hasn’t already been renewed for season 16! I’ve watched all 15 & although a few of the characters have changed it remains strong but I was disappointed to see Kate’s exit, which episode was a shocker after never reading news or any spoilers about Sasha’s exit. I miss Ziva & DiNozzo too & sometimes joke around with my son giving him the Gibbs head smack! Lol! I like the 3 new characters & they too have great chemistry. I think Wilmer Valderrama… Read more »

I’ve watched all of them & although a few of the characters have changed. Even though I was disappointed to see Kate’s exit, which episode was a shocker after never reading news or any spoilers about Sasha’s exit, it’s continued strong although I really miss Ziva & DiNozzo! I often joke around with my son giving him the Gibbs smack since we’ve watched the show together from the beginning! Lol! I like the 3 new… Read more »
Love the show, but I think it has run its’ course. My thought is that it always had a strong female lead that could hold her own. Starting with the Kate character and moving right into Ziva. Neither of them took any static from the male characters on the show, and that just made it more enjoyable. Now, the female characters are just fluff. So to reiterate… Big fan of the show, but it has definitely run its’ course.
Never miss NCIS ever….. Agreed show has changed since loss of Ziva and Tony…. REALLY HARD! And Gibbs has changed as well but writers are good enough to write an interesting story line for that change (older different perspectives but still ala Gibbs) and Mark Harmon is a good enough actor to pull that off. Don’t know why writers have been on trickle in developing the other characters It’s like they lost someone on the writing team?? The actors are there – they need the story lines !!!! I will always watch NCIS If it goes away I won’t be… Read more »
I used to absolutely love NCIS and enjoyed the quirky balance of drama and comedy but as much as it pains me to say it, season 14 was disappointing and season 15 is bordering on woeful. The main characters are now over-the-top and cartoonish and Mark Harmon is just too old to pull off the role anymore. Just watch a couple of episodes from a few years ago and even the die-hard fans would find it hard to not see the decline in plots and genuinely funny banter and humour. Poor Sean Murray is forced to play a cowed husband… Read more »
I agree. My opinion it should have ended when Ziva left or brought her back
The departure of Michael Weatherly was a huge disappointment. I believe the show went downhill considerably.
The characters Torres and Quinn are horrible. Episodes are lacking in excitement.
I have tried watching season 14, but find myself forwarding through the episode to get to the end.
My vote is to cancel. To many crucial characters have left or are leaving and the replacements lack.
Agreed cancel already
NCIS is still the best show on TV. It is one of two shows I watch, (“Lucifer” being the other), all else is trash. I expect the writers will adjust to the loss of “Abbey” and continue on just as they have done in the past when cast members leave. To date the only cast member I have found fault with was “Jennifer Esposito” and she didn’t last long. I certainly will welcome Season 16, (and 17, 18 ,19, 20).
If CBS cancels NCIS, I will never watch any show on CBS again. NCIS shall get renewed for AT LEAST FIVE MORE SEASONS. It needs to at least tie with L&O.
NCIS series 16 should be put on television as both my husband Bob and I love it and feel at least put the final series on.
I know this is long, but please read!!!!! I love NCIS. I am as old as the show and I have been a fan for as long as I can remember. I have watched every episode, all 334 of them (as of October 20, 2017). The show got better and better up until Weatherly left. But before whoever reads this decides to come to a conclusion please continue reading… NCIS has shown it can survive without him. NCIS can also survive without Perrette even though she is a big part of the show. I want to see NCIS get renewed… Read more »
The show has run its course and the ratings are starting to reflect this decline. Not the show it once was.
Emily Wickersham, Pauley Perrette, Wilmer Valderrama, Maria Bello need to be eliminated from the show their characters are to thin in substance and cartoonish. Making the show better suited for Saturday morning on the cartoon network. Get rid of the nails on a chalk board “Pauley Perrette” she just doesn’t make a believable smart one person Crime lab tech. The show needs to as they say in the military “Man UP” or it will go whimpering out the door as it is cancelled.
This show is AWESOME,!!! I NEVER MISS A SINGLE EPISODE!!!
NCIS is the best show on television. To cancel it would be a mistake of epic proportions. And I read a story that Abby (Pauley Perrette) was being dropped from the cast due to her personal business selling woman’s beauty products was in conflict with advertisers that sold the same kind of products. To drop Abby due to such a petty reason would be a tremendous mistake. This issue should be delt with via a negotiation across a table where a compromise can be reached to resolve this PETTY issue.
You shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet. None of what you wrote about beauty products is true. Though she is leaving the show. For the better.
Each season this show gets progressively worse. Episode 1 of this new season was unbelievable and laughable. Even for my spouse who was once a stalwart fan of this show in earlier years and still holds out ever decreasing hope that NCIS might return to its former glory.
I very much doubt NCIS is going anywhere, it’s the best series on TV, now that POI is gone! All the ‘This Is Us’ **** really makes me want to kill myself.
