In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

I can not believe that CBS would cancel the best comedy on TV. Bring back The New Adventures of Old Christine.
There aren’t many shows on “network” television that I watch and “new Christine” was, I repeat, WAS one of them. Thanks CBS. No, it wasnt Cheers, Seinfeld etc but it usually brought out a chuckle. Now its time I guess to cancel Rules of Engagement. My other “look fwd to watching” show.
damn.. I had no idea that this show was canceled until tonight… wtf cbs… wtf?
I”m really disappointed that the show was cancelled, was really looking forward to more.
why don’t you give these shows a chance New Christine is a lot better than a lot
of other shows on the air.
I don’t want a series finale. I WANT THE SHOW BACK!!!!! It was the funniest sitcom on TV!!!
I don’t want a series finale. I WANT THE SERIES BACK!!! It was the sitcom that my family look forward to the most.
I love the show, I was waiting for it to appear this month on my pre-recordings but it was gone,,,, where are all the funny shows going ? I want her back!!!
This is such crap. If a show is having trouble, try another night. Don’t give up on it. I recently started following multiple cbs shows but this makes me want to give up on the whole network. why watch the shows if you never know if they are going to cancel them without any conclusion.
C’mon, who are these people trying to kid and who paid them to write good messages about a show that was as flat as an unleavened potato pancake. There was little chemistry among the cast, overacting, and poor writing. Just another loser in the comic sitcum cesspool.
I’m sooo disappointed! 🙁 I thought this show was hilarious! Rarely does a show make me laugh out loud but this one always did. I will miss you Christine!
So sorry to here. Seems like all the shows we enjoy get canceled and more reality tv(YUCK) is being kept on. Any intelegent shows get pulled. It’s a shame.
Ok so they take away a great show that made me laugh everytime I watched it, and gave us !#@* my dad says?? Really CBS, Really? And they are not off the hook, although I love ABC and they’re sitcom line up, they could of used this show and saved it for mid season and given the people who did enjoy it a proper wrap up. But the networks have let me down before with cancellations. I loved Ellen Degenere’s show on CBS. It made me so mad they never gave it a proper chance. If they would of given… Read more »
My family and I were anticipating the return “Christine”, but couldn’t find it on the new lineup!!! If we couldn’t catch it we taped it…because we didn’t want to miss it!!!
I am enjoying the syndicated versions but will miss the future of Chritine and her extended family. BOO!!!
Another reason to hate the CBS lineup. At least give us a series finale for watching for 6 seasons!
