The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
Don’t cancel NEXt
Crazy. Intellectual series take time to develop.
I loved the show, after everything we’ve been thru in 2020, we need a little fiction. Looks like the ending left room for a season two
Was looking forward to a second season. Very disappointed
I actually really liked the show! I definitely would have watched a second season if there was to be one. I’m very disappointed to hear that it has been cancelled. The ratings must have been pretty awful to cancel the show after only one season. Why is it that shows that are mere “fluff” in my opinion get renewed, but gritty, intense, intelligent series get cancelled after only one or two seasons for the most part??? It sucks!!!
They cancelled it after two episodes!
I loved NEXT! I think the network was a little hasty in cancelling the “next” series. The story line was good, the characters outstanding and there was always that tension of “what’s going to happen next”
Maybe it has been taken off air as it is ‘too close’ to the truth of what is happening in the real world .?
That was my thought as well.
I really hate it when a good show just gets canceled esp if it ends on a cliff hanger or the story does not have an ‘ending’ to it.
There should be some type of regulation that gets shown warning viewers that the series has been canceled so I do not waste my time watching it and then get disappointed when it gets canceled and ends with out a ‘ending’ 🙁
My family and I loved Next. Better than most of your shows. need to have a second season .
Great show. Need a 2nd season.
Please vive us a 2nd series of Next it is so good! It is ferry special but more you follow the serie it gets realy good
We had to view them later so we programed and look au them later. Please bring it back!
3 shows and canceled that’s not even long enough. Who is being pushed out of Hollywood. Sounds like someone in movie industry got black balled.
I watched the whole season was looking forward to season 2. Sure beat the heck out of reality tv, singing, and dancing shows. Was the first new show that was actually good in a long time.
Bring season 2 on.
I really liked the show, and cannot understand why it was only given a one season chance. At least rerun it again in late winter or Spring and see if it gets some more viewers. Damn, a great show Fox gives up on after one season. Maybe I’ll give up on Fox after only one chance.
agree, often the good shows don’t make it vs. the sports like world series, or whatever; reality tv, etc. Perhaps humanity deserves ‘neXt’ the killer a.i. instead of neXt the tv show
