The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
You make a killer show and you cancel it. Too close to the truth?
Crazy to cancel this show. Great cast, acting, writing, producing. One of the smartest shows on TV. So, of course, they cancel it.
So they finally made a show worth watching, didn’t advertise it at all, put 3 episodes up in two weeks and then waited over a month to show any other episodes, and they think the show’s rating issues were because it was unliked? I have yet to see a person say they hated it. This is just par for the course from FOX. They do this all the time, but keep garbage shows like any season of the Simpsons past about 20. They cancelled Brooklyn 99 amd Firefly, for crying out loud.
My wife and I saw all 10 episodes of season 1 and were hoping for a season 2. From this article, it appears that it’s not forthcoming. Too bad, it’s a good show.
Very good show. Would definitely watch season 2. I think network television, premium channels and streaming do a disservice to their audiences by canceling series without concluding the storyline. It makes us think twice before investing our time into another series. How about a guarantee that a series will have a conclusion before being canceled.
I thought this was one of the few really interesting shows on network TV and would absolutely have watched Season Two. Sadly, the show got bounced around and pre-empted till it was almost impossible to find it week to week. It deserved better. John Slattery led a (for the most part) strong cast. I’d like to think Netflix would pick up something like this and run with it.
I just finished watching season one. Good show. I was looking forward to season 2. I Googled to see when season 2 was scheduled to air and found it was cancelled. Big mistake. Very relevant to whats going on. Please bring it back.
This was a great show! They should advertise it more and pick a better name. No way this got bad ratings
PLEASE BRING BACK ‘NEXT’! My wife and I love the show – great casting, outstanding story line, and well-written. We just happened to stumble upon the show so clearly it was not effectively marketed. Perhaps ratings can be improved by improved marketing to get more folks interested.
Definitely a keeper for me in my 50s and my son who is 18. Great suspense with AI knowledge.
I would have liked to watch additional episodes of neXt, and am disappointed that FOX cancelled it.
I loved NEXT I am so disappointed it was cancelled!
I loved next!! Bring it back!
I didn’t think I’d like this show after the first two episodes, but it became more and more interesting. The only cast member I recognized was John Slattery, but the casting is good. The story line is relevant to our modern lives. I’m going to watch the last two episodes tonight. I’m sorry to learn there will be no more.
Not many shows have the quality of this one since the end of 24. Please come back with neXt for a second season! Filipe from Portugal
Disappointed that it got cancelled, great show with lots of suspense, good script and cast.
S02 please!!
