The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

Why is it when the program is enjoyable it’s given a death Nell. Theirs too many reality programs and never enough shows that are questioning where WE are going. My wife and I are disappointed with fox for this cancellation hope ful it’ll get too Netflix
I thought the show was pretty good. I thought it was totally different than all the other stuff that’s on And I am going to miss it.

They cancelled it too soon….i’ve watched 8 episodes now, and it’s damned good. But, it’s FOX, and that’s what they do. ( 8 or 9 years of GLEE, tho… )

neXt is a great show. Typical of TV execs trying to gauge what people want. SO much garbage gets renewed repeatedly. Really AWFUL crap! I’m super disappointed, but not surprised. I’ve seen EVERY episode to date. I’ll watch the “season finale” with bitter sadness and disdain for those who decided to remove intelligent, thoughtful programming. I watch VERY few of FOX’s other prime time drivel. Guess I’m too smart for FOX.
Just one more good show canceled after one season without a second chance. Why bother anymore getting into a drama when networks would rather promote stupid reality shows than good drama. You are turning off the older generation that find reality shows a waste of time and killing regular network viewing.
Demograpic age 77 male. First watch was of neXt #8. Succinctly … Incredible Fantastic, a 12 on a 10 scale. Relevant, contemporary, top notch in every category. Talented extraordinare cast & production. My first search after watching this one episode was for a compilation of its CDs. “Desk scientists” that make or break on “numbers” at a fixed moment never seem to consider relevant factors against potential due to uncontrollable factors. Hopefully Fox will regain sense and retain this gift or someone with cranial fodder will take it over for the treasure it is.
Also. John slattery has one of funniest lines but you have to really listen closely to catch those lines!! Grade A show. And they leave on air the stupidest shoes!!
I love the show next. What a shame a very intelligently made show. Why do they always cancel the gliyoid ones!!!.

Please reconsider.
One of the BEST shows I’ve seen in a long time. The content is excellent and relevant. It’s sad that COVID took our lively hood now it’s attacking our entertainment. Execs need to help keep intellectual shows on air not just cheap reality shows that aren’t even real.
Super sad to see both shows go. Miss the way FOX used to be, give em a chance already. One season and poof they’re gone. They had to many interruptions with sports and politics.
Super disappointed this show is cancelled! I think it would do very well if Fox actually gave it a shot. It randomly cancelled weeks and changes air dates constantly! No wonder ratings were low- nothing to do with people not liking it!
