The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
What an absolutely illogical decision. Cancelling this show would be, is, abhorrent. Finally an intelligent show on FX, that isn’t animated, and it gets canned during a pandemic. I’d have PAID to continue streaming episodes after the finale. Oh well.
FOX’s loss I suppose. Goes to show: they don’t leave all their idiotic blundering for FOX News.
Now that we’ve seen the finale, we know the show started slow but ended with a strong story and cast. Season 2 would be terrific. I hope they’ll reconsider.
I would certainly watch a second season! I’m disappointed they aren’t continuing. Bad year to have to make these decisions. Maybe Hulu can continue making it as their original.
I loved the show; not sure why it was scheduled so erratically; perhaps Netflix could do what they did for Designated Survivor for at least a wrap up finale or better yet a second season
Loved the show and hope a streaming service picks up season 2 ;show was hurt by spotty scheduling and of course covid
Going to miss the series, the ending makes sense for a second season. Maybe hulu or Amazon prime could pick it up.
Are you crazy for canceling this show! I loved it and was sure hoping for another season
Enjoyed the show. Sad that it is ending. AI is a reality and some day Alexa may say NO to a request.
neXt is a smart show and I was looking forward to the story continuing. Perhaps FOX can change its mind?
I just watched ,what I have now discovered, was the final episode of NEXT. It’s hard to believe the ratings were bad enuf to warrant this. The show was very well acted, suspenseful , had the right amount of “pure action’ and most importantly was intelligent. I’m hoping there will be some sort of magic and there WILL be a season two.
Why cancelling a good show, who is interesting, unique and I can wait to see the next episode . And you are not cancelling stupid reality show!!
Yes, I would watch more “Next” our family really liked it.
I liked it and was hoping for another season.
You should keep Next on it is a fantastic show. Give it a chance please.
Wow! I’m so disappointed Next wasn’t renewed for a second season. Great, smart, interesting, relevant, non boring show. Love the story, the characters & the plot. It’s a shame all the stupid, vapid, dumb reality shows never get canceled. Then theres all these silly reboots, dumb sitcoms & reboot game shows or singing competition shows. Who watches that garbage? The further dumbing down of society! Thank goodness for streaming services & cable!
I agree they’ll renew these stupid masked singers and now they will do a masked dancer but a show like neXT was interesting
