Tonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?
Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.
NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.
This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.
Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”
Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

Parenthood is THE BEST show on TV now. I only wish there were more shows in the season year. I never miss the show and many times watch it again when my husband sits down to watch it. I love every character and each person plays the perfect role for their personality. I can get lost in Parenthood and forget that I don’t know these people because the show is so close to real life issues. I can’t wait for the new season to begin again. I love this show…do not miss an episode and its the best on TV right now–its the time slot that is hard to stay up for sometimes but I always watch it on demand the next day if I miss it. My teen kids love this show too and its the one thing on TV we all watch together-Most of us watching any TV these days are so OVER the reality shows;. I love the show!! It is finally nice to watch something that average people can relate to. The characters live in average homes, and have everyday kind of jobs with everyday kind of problems.I wish that they will renew,all my friends here in Nova Scotia Canada love it!!! BIG FANS!!!
This is a great show! Please renew. I don’t watch much TV but this is one show I stay up for (wouldn’t mind it being a little earlier). It is very decent yet real; great writing and acting.

Must renew. It is a great show. Funny, yet real life stuff… It did seem a little “rushed” to end the story lines before the end of the season, so I have a hunch that it is gone.

This is the best show on tv. I have missed it not being on in the last 3 weeks! It’s the only show I make a point to be home for. It’s very realistic.
I agree! it is the timeslot you give this show. I have desperately tried to stay awake at times to watch it. Alot of people dvr it. It is a great wholesome show. You laugh you cry and rejoice at the end of each episode. I have been lost without it the past 3 weeks. I am certain if you aired it earlier, those who never got a chance to watch it would definately become loyal followers. You are missing half of your working class viewers because of it’s late airing.
