Even though the first season of the Ransom TV show did so poorly in the Nielsen ratings that it should have been cancelled, CBS renewed it for a second season, anyhow. The show has a lot of international partners and did well outside the US, so the Tiffany Network decided to pick up season two, and once again air it on Saturday nights. How will the crime drama fare, in its sophomore outing? Will Ransom be cancelled or renewed for season three? If it is renewed, will CBS carry it? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A CBS mystery thriller from creators Frank Spotnitz and David Vainola, Ransom stars Luke Roberts, Sarah Greene, Brandon Jay McLaren, and Nazneen Contractor. The story centers on crisis and hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont (Roberts). He and his team save lives which often seem beyond saving, in part, because Eric understands criminals better than they understand themselves. Exploiting his powers of manipulation, Eric eschews using violence, even in the most dangerous kidnappings and ransom cases. Psych-profiler Oliver Yates (McLaren), former police officer Zara Hallam (Contractor), and investigator Maxine Carlson (Greene) form the team that backs up Beaumont.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival.
7/1 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of Ransom on CBS averaged a 0.43 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and 3.457 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Ransom TV show? Should this CBS TV series be cancelled or renewed for season three?

We really like this show, please renew
Yes I ready like the show I hope it comes back for season 3
The show has really grown on my the last two years. I see the ratings are down but from what I hear this show is doing well overseas. Hopefully they make a short deal in the US to keep it going then make their money on the overseas markets.
I like ransom and would like to see a season 3.
Please renew this show for Season 3. BIG FAN of this show
I love this show and really hope that it starts picking up (story lines). I really do not want to see it get cancelled (again).
This should die a quiet death. It just doesn’t seem to resonate any bit of reality. The relationships are convoluted & I find it hard to care about any of them or the situations he gets the hostage out of. It reminds me of the new show Deception where that guy IS a magician with show crew assistants who all have to care for each other & every facet of their tricks. Therefore it is easier to be involved with that cast than this one.
I didn’t even know it was renewed. Last night I’m looking at the guide and I see Ransom was coming on. I select it to see which rerun episode it is, and it says S2 E1. I had two minutes to set it up for recording. Not even a single commercial saying it was coming on.
I love this show and in regards to your comment…the “powers that be” schedule good shows on terrible nights, especially for the age group they desire to reach, then to make matters worse for the show (and the viewers), they don’t advertise or give so much as a hint that it’s coming back on. Talk about destroying a show’s ratings.
Love this show. ..one of my favorite. ..love that it”s on Saturdays. …..only good thing to watch. ….Please Renew
