ABC Family has decided to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.
In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).
Things change when Patrick’s former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David’s previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn’t want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who’s a rising star on her own.
The show debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making Ruby the second best sitcom launch in the network’s history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and the sitcom lost steam in the following weeks. While the network has renewed 10 Things for another 10 episodes, ABC Family has decided to dump Ruby after one short season.
The final episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the episode, titled “Smells like Teen Drama,” Jordan and Ruby compete for the attention of the same girl. Privileged’s Lucy Hale guest stars as Ruby’s best friend and Jordan’s new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ben is being bullied at school. David and Patrick want him to fight back while his mother has a very different point of view.

Don’t cancel the show!! Its the funniest show yet and it always puts a smile on my face and encouraed me to keep my singing career!! This show is the best thing that ever happened to ABC Family!! Don’t cancel the show!! Be creative when doing the show if you can’t think of anything to do!!Open your mind and imagine what would happen!!I have so many good ideas and I would love it if the show wouldn’t be cancelled!! So quick to drop the ax. It would be different if no one watched the show but there were many who did, like my husband and myself. This show got my husband to laugh, and let me tell you, it takes a lot for him to laugh at any TV show. ABC Family is making a BIG mistake. This show had us watching ABC Family. What is the matter with ABC “Family”??? A great, clean “family” show, something my whole family can enjoy gets cancelled! And they keep “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” on? A show that is totally un-family-friendly and inappropriate for kids. This network is clueless!!! Bring back “Ruby and the Rockits”!!!

Noooooooooo – this was a great family show. I could watch it with my kids and we would all find something about it we liked. My daughter, nieces, nephew were all asking when it would be back – I told them I’d check online and can’t believe I have to tell them it is cancelled!!
we need more shows like this, our shows are getting a little over the edge, no wonder so many people are messed up, no more family shows. Lets get back to the good ole days!
I think it is a huge mistake to cancel such a great show. This show was funny and one ofthe few family friendly shows on abc family. I can’t believe 10 things I hate about you gets a second chance, it was horrible.

alot of credit for creating this fantastic show. Please wake up and put the show back
on the air. There are such stupid shows that are alot of crap. Take off somebody else
who watched one of the crap shows and see how they like it maybe you will take a huge hit.

This was a great family show that appealed to all ages, younger people who watched it for the teenagers in the show and those of us older folks who grew up with David Cassidy. Maybe another network that’s adventurous, such as TV Land could pick it up. Or ABC family might have tried it on their main network, ABC. It would go so well paired with a show like The Middle or Modern Family. C’mon ABC, figure it out.
ABC Family is making a HUGE mistake! I love this show and so does everyone else at my school. I really think it should stay on the air. I’ve been waiting months for it to come back and now it’s cancelled. If they arn’t going to have a second season they could a least cut loose ends and have Jordan find out he’s adopted so he can be with Ruby.
This show was the best. Do they not realize they took something great off?

Why? Why would you cancel a show so good. ABC Family ironically enough airs a lot of shows that are not appropriate for younger audiences. Ruby and the rockets was good for the whole family. Plus you gave it ten episodes. That’s pathetic. Their is no way to tell how a show will do after ten episodes. You didn’t even give it a chance. On top of that. You call that last episode a finale. Their was no point no cliffhanger. The audience at least deserved a good finale. Thanks a lot.
