Tonight marks the end of the road for Detective Harlee Santos on NBC‘s Shades of Blue TV show. The writers knew that this would be the final episode so they had time to try to make it a satisfying series finale. Did the cop series receive a fitting send-off? Would you have watched a fourth season?
Shades of Blue stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker, and Sarah Jeffery. The mystery thriller follows Harlee Santos (Lopez) and her work “family” of Brooklyn detectives, including the enigmatic Lt. Matt Wozniak (Liota), whose shades of blue skew grey.
It was announced back in April that season three would be the end for Shades of Blue. According to Lopez, she had made the decision to end the series. The star and an executive producer on the series, she said, “I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character – a woman, a detective but, first and foremost, a mother.” At the time, the network said that season three would bring the story of Lopez’s character to a fitting conclusion.
While NBC no doubt liked having the Lopez and Liotta vehicle on the network, it’s never been a hit in the ratings. The first season averaged a 1.17 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.79 million viewers. Season two attracted a 0.76 demo (down 35%) with 4.30 million (down 26%).
The abbreviated third season of 10 episodes has been drawing a paltry 0.51 in the demo (down another 33%) and 3.16 million (down another 27%). Had the series not ended on its own, it’s hard to imagine that the peacock network would have renewed it anyway.
But, what do you think? Should Shades of Blue have ended? Should NBC have renewed it for a fourth season — potentially with limited involvement by Lopez? Would you have kept watching or, was this the right time to end the show?
WOULD HAVE WATCHED FOREVER…..
Totally loved this show and I consider myself fairly critical…..but the writing was great and the actors superb. I will truly miss that show. Holding out hope for another season.
Definitely needed to keep the show bring it back
yes best show. all great actors too. when u don’t market enough then no one knows about the show. and when u switch days, time etc. no one can follow. just assume that it didn’t come back on. network mistakes and loss
Please bring Shades of Blue back, best show ever, best actors.
I love be Shades of Blue… Please bring it back do we can see how everyone’s life is after the death of the creep FBI agent! Best dinner show❤️
Shades of Blue was one of my husbands favorite shows. I don’t understand when you put good shows on you take them off just when they get good & then put stupid shoes on to replace them. You took off some of our favorite shows last season & brought some stupid shows on in there place.
Please renew Shades of Blue. I want the rest of the story! There are still so many stories to tell. If the show doesn’t get renewed, Netflix make it a Netflix original series. Thank you!
best crime show there is,please bring it back.
would have loved to have this show continue execellent programming
best show on tv
Yes, I would have kept watching it! Jennifer Lopez is highly underrated as an actress; she was wonderful in this dramatic series and Ray Liotta (!!!) on TV (!!!)! He was amazing! So were all the other actors. It was a riveting series and I wish it continued. That being said, I’m grateful they “ended” it rather than canceling it.
I love having the big screw Actor’s on TV! Who’s next? We have Kevin Costner on a simply WONDERFUL show, Yellowstone. Now we need more!
It is a great show,it shouldn’t be canceled.
The story was way to far out there
I can see why the ratings were low. Was just to I real and crazy
I wasn’t aware that Lppez wanted out but now that her story is complete the rest of the cast could easily have carried on and continued with a cracking TV show.
I can’t understand the low ratings as it was up there with the best.
At lest we did get a meaningful ending and the door is always open for more if minds become changed.
