Tonight marks the end of the road for Detective Harlee Santos on NBC‘s Shades of Blue TV show. The writers knew that this would be the final episode so they had time to try to make it a satisfying series finale. Did the cop series receive a fitting send-off? Would you have watched a fourth season?
Shades of Blue stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker, and Sarah Jeffery. The mystery thriller follows Harlee Santos (Lopez) and her work “family” of Brooklyn detectives, including the enigmatic Lt. Matt Wozniak (Liota), whose shades of blue skew grey.
It was announced back in April that season three would be the end for Shades of Blue. According to Lopez, she had made the decision to end the series. The star and an executive producer on the series, she said, “I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character – a woman, a detective but, first and foremost, a mother.” At the time, the network said that season three would bring the story of Lopez’s character to a fitting conclusion.
While NBC no doubt liked having the Lopez and Liotta vehicle on the network, it’s never been a hit in the ratings. The first season averaged a 1.17 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.79 million viewers. Season two attracted a 0.76 demo (down 35%) with 4.30 million (down 26%).
The abbreviated third season of 10 episodes has been drawing a paltry 0.51 in the demo (down another 33%) and 3.16 million (down another 27%). Had the series not ended on its own, it’s hard to imagine that the peacock network would have renewed it anyway.
But, what do you think? Should Shades of Blue have ended? Should NBC have renewed it for a fourth season — potentially with limited involvement by Lopez? Would you have kept watching or, was this the right time to end the show?
I would have kept watching please bring it back.
YES, I would have kept watching this show. I liked it and was sorry to see that it was cancelled.
LOVED that show…would definitely have kept watching it (we PVR’d it as we do with all our shows to make sure we never miss one!) Really bummed when it was cancelled…..hope it comes back! The whole cast was well chosen and it really was all that and a bag of chips!
Yes I watched it. It’s not on at a good time..9 pm Sunday here. Everyone is getting ready for Monday. This show is better than alot of other shows. I loved it. BRING IT BACK.
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS SERIES AND WAS SAD TO SEE IT END. IT PUSHED THE LIMITS SOMETIMES BUT OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD SHOW.
My husband and I love love love the show “Shades of Blue”. We were very disappointed to hear that season 3 was their last and that NBC canceled the series. AND very disappointed with the networks for canceling a show/series that was obvious one of their best.
I loved this show and was very disappointed that it was not renewed. I did not like the ending at all! It just made me want to see another season! There was no closure.
I absolutely loved Shades of Blue. Ray Liotta never lost missed a step and played the complex Lt. superbly. The entire cast held their own and I honestly don’t see why it failed. Emmy worthy television at it’s best. I’ll definitely miss the show.
We, 1 male and 1 female watched this show each week and sad to see it go. I enjoyed that I did not see the next move coming as is the case with most programs.
The show was filled with twists and turns with flawed people making tough choices. The best and the worst in people all rolled in to each character. A text book of morality showing actions and their consequences. A little over the top at times but still worth watching.
Shades of Blue should have been renewed for another season.
great show with great stars !!! another year please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
renew.. was good show
Please do another season. Jennifer & Ray are the best!
Love shades of Blue
i so enjoyed jennifer in this series.
She really is a great actress – if I see her name in the cast of a show I know I’m going to like it – matter of fact I think I like her better as an actress than a singer/dancer!
