Though ABC’s reality series Shark Tank hasn’t been doing big business in the ratings, the network is apparently happy enough with the ratings to want additional installments.
Each episode of Shark Tank spotlights entrepreneurs and inventors who are looking for capitol to help fuel their dreams. They pitch their ideas to successful business people Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John, otherwise known as “the Sharks.” If they’re interested, the Sharks offer to invest their own money but typically want a bigger piece of the pie than the inventor has in mind.
The series is based on a UK program called Dragons’ Den and the first of 10 episodes premiered on ABC on August 9th. The ratings weren’t anything to crow about during the summer and were expected to drop even lower opposite new fall programming. Surprisingly, the numbers have actually started to rise in the past few weeks. Though they’re still quite low, would that be enough for the network to invest in more episodes?
A couple days ago, Harrington encouraged fans to ask ABC to keep the show going. After wondering what she’d do on Tuesday nights now that the show was off the air, Corcoran wrote that a second season was still under consideration by the network.
While ABC has yet to make an official announcement, two of the Sharks themselves spilled the info this weekend. Herjavec broke the news late yesterday and wrote, “Great news – ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet – but it’s coming.”
John confirmed the news but cautioned that it was not a full season pickup. He wrote, “great news! but 5 [more episodes] is not a full season, we have to turn it up 4 them to make it a full season.” He later said that he didn’t know the airdate either and suggested they wouldn’t air at least until 2010.
UPDATE: ABC later clarified that two additional episodes would be created out of existing footage. They will be combined with three leftover installments and will be aired at a later date. There’s still no decision on a second season.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Shark Tank is coming back, at least for a little while?

JUST LIKE DRAGON’S DEN ALSO!!
I used to be on both ends of this process in the real world…show makes me laugh in that it really duplicates what actually goes on !! I love it…which means it is probably doomed as shows like the Biggest Loser seem to prevail..sigh….
LOVE THIS SHOW! Please keep the show going.
I’m not one to watch alot of TV, but this show is a must each week!!!!!!!!

Worst show on TV.
This type of garbage should only be found in the toilet.
Do NOT create another season.
Please bring Shark Tank back! I have been living in the shark infested VC world myself and finally have some relevant entertainment!
Shark Tank is the BEST reality tv show on the air. It HAS to come back for a full season.
I really enjoy the “Shark Tank” program. It is different and entertaining. I have learned some information about investing. I think people would be very interested in watching it once they see it. I am so hooked, I even watch the British version “Dragons Den” which errors on Sunday nights on BBC channel. I like both very much. I also feel very confident in the Sharks and Dragons questions and opinions it is some what educational. It really makes you think. Val
shark tank is a great show, my wife and I love to watch it. Please bring it back in the spring of 2010
Great show!! Needs to stay on the air! Another great show should not be cancelled!!!
As a specialty food manufacturer/distributor eager to boost sales of my all natural pepper jellies and extraordinary spicy hot bleu cheese wing dips/sauces, I have learned a lot from the Sharks about financing, pitching, and negotiating. I learned that having them in all Whole Foods Markets in Florida isn’t enough for the Sharks, and I need to get my rear in gear and get them in ALL the WFM regions before I can be taken seriously! Shark Tank has given me courage and conviction that I can accomplish great things with my products and my abilities. Please, please bring the… Read more »
This show is great and definitely should be on the air! Premiering the show on Sunday was probably why they had low ratings, but once it moved to Tuesday night, the show caught on! The reason why? It was on prime time and once you watch one episode, you can’t stop! The show is great and definitely something different to watch on ABC. KEEP IT ON THE AIR!
