Sharp Objects won’t be getting a followup. Deadline reports the HBO TV show will not return for a second season.
Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, the limited series follows St. Louis newspaper reporter Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) as she returns to her small hometown to file a story about two missing girls. The cast also includes Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Miguel Sandoval, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport.
During a recent panel, HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed Sharp Objects will remain a limited series and there are no plans for a second season:
Unlike Big Little Lies where all of the stars wanted to come back, Sharp Objects, it’s a very dark character, very dark material. Amy doesn’t want to live in this character again and I can’t blame her, it’s a lot to take on for an actress. So no plans for a second season. We are very happy with this living as a limited series.”
What do you think? Are you watching Sharp Objects? Would you watch a second season?
Well written and acted!
We really enjoyed this show and can’t believe it has been cancelled!
Wow – I am so disappointed. I watched the finale last night, and I was on the edge of my seat. What a surprise ending. This show is so well acted – so intriguing – so layered and complex. I have watched each episode at least twice, and notice more subtle things that I did not notice the first time. Absolute excellence – I am devastated that it won’t be back. I do get it though, Amy Adams – hard to live in Camille’s skin. But she made such progress…..I will always wonder how she is doing.
I would have liked to see another season, but understand the dark characters would be hard to live. It did have a surprising ending. And where would they go from here. The sister is a nut job and the next episode would be her being admitted to a facility for the dangerously disturbed. The end
I loved the show but the ending should have been longer. her sister was put into an asylam.
I actually really like Sharp Objects.I thought the acting was great. It was shot well and deals with real mental health issues. I also liked the the disturbing atmospheric mood of it
I am disappointed it is not being renewed
I’m good with a single season as long as it has an ending with real closure.
Since there’s no Season Two I hope that the entire book is revealed in the limited series. I’m enjoying the Series but the book is dark also.
Ahhhhh, a lil good news this morning. I didn’t even make it through my traditional 3 before bailing on this snoozer and I loved the book!
Yeah, ok. I’m sure her tune would change if people were actually watching it.
This is really hard to watch. All the back & forth & the darkness, both in actual cinematography & characters. I can’t imagine a second season would make all the hurts & years of coping poorly be vanquished. And most viewers wouldn’t want to go down this path again. Cancelling is the correct decision.
It is sooo slow. Also, kind of boring, even though the story line is strong. Long languid shots, very artsy, but more of a distraction than an asset. I would like the story to just get on with it – more plot and fewer visuals.
We have been watching it. Interesting. But definitely not for everyone.
Heheh as I said on its viewer rankings, Nobody watches this. There is even nobody to type here.
I watched it so far, it’s kind of hard to follow, jumps around a lot. I think it could have been a lot better
I watched two episodes just to see the local places used to film. It was painful to make it that far. Couldnt imagine sitting through another episode much less a season. Good call on this cancel!
