Last season, FOX touted Sleepy Hollow as a hit series of the 2013-14 season and gave it an early renewal. How are things looking a year later, as we come to the end of the second season? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
A supernatural police drama, Sleepy Hollow follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), a patriot who was killed 230 years ago. He finds himself resurrected in modern day and partners with a female police lieutenant. Unfortunately, the Headless Horseman has also returned. The cast includes Nicole Beharie, Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Clancy Brown, John Cho, and Richard Cetrone.
Sleepy Hollow debuted in September of 2013 to a very healthy 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.1 million viewers. The ratings dropped quite a bit over the course of the season — hitting a low of a 2.2 in the demo and 6.46 million — but it remained their highest-rated scripted series of the season.
Unfortunately, it’s been a very different story in season two. The premiere drew a 2.0 demo rating with 5.59 million viewers — a new series low. The numbers took a big dip in week two and have gotten worse as the weeks have worn on. A couple weeks ago, Sleepy Hollow hit yet another new low with a 1.2 demo rating and 3.87 million viewers.
Season-to-season, the Monday night drama is down by about 40% in the ratings — averaging a 1.6 in the demo and 4.58 million total viewers.
Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a third season? It could go either way. The network didn’t hand out an early renewal this time around and we likely won’t know the show’s fate until May when FOX’s plans for the 2015-16 season are announced. While Sleepy Hollow’s performance is way down, much of the rest of the network’s schedule is also struggling.
Their decision will likely depend heavily on what new shows they have in development that could be a good companion for Gotham — one of their two new successful series.
But, what do you think? If you ran the network, would you cancel Sleepy Hollow or renew it for a third season? Would you make any changes to attract new or past viewers.
RENEW!! I love this show!!!
My friend Mike and I love this show and we both want it to be renewed. Don’t cancel it. Better to have it at 8 PM and a show like Gotham follow it not the other way around.
My tastes must be so different from most people’s. I’m a huge comic book fan, both DC and Marvel, but just can’t get into Gotham. I force myself to watch it after 4 or 5 build up on the DVR, but I don’t enjoy it, look forward to it, or care one way or the other if I ever see another episode. On the other hand, Sleepy Hollow is one of the few shows I sit down and watch live. It’s a fresh, exciting take on mythology that other shows have recycled in the same, tired manner too many times.… Read more »
Please renew Sleepy hollow. It’s one of few really different shows on TV.
Please keep Sleepy Hollow. So many reality shows, and cooking shows, there is nothing else on anymore. I just love the show and look forward to it every Monday! It actually helps make history more interesting and fun.
I fully agree with you. It’s better to be caught up in an interesting show than to mindlessly follow some of them.
I only watch 2 network shows. Gotham and Sleepy Hollow. I especially like the historical aspect of Sleepy Hollow. Please do not cancel these shows. I will admit that the eye gouging on Gotham was over the top in goriness. They could have done without that. Otherwise, it is an interesting take on the Batman story.
Love Sleepy Hollow it should definitely be renewed for season 3. It is a different type of show which is why it is so good…
I love Sleepy Hollow. There are so few really good shows on TV anymore. Too many are sitcoms or reality shows, which I find boring. Too many times networks can a show just because the ratings are lower than they were the first season. I think they should renew it for at least a third season to give it a fair chance to at least resolve story lines if nothing else. I hate it when shows are cancelled leaving cliffhangers – like A&E did with The Glades. Nothing like leaving your star bleeding out on the floor the day of… Read more »
Yes, keep Sleepy Hollow. I can’t wait for Monday nights to watch it. The characters are awesome with the mix between past and present along with what their future will be. Fox needs to definitely keep this show going for a season 3.
Sleepy Hollow is one of the best shows on the air. It has intelligence, no nudity, cussing, history VS modern day. The chemistry between all the charactors is undeniable, Katrina for some reason, never fit. Please leave Sleepy Hollow alone, leave it on, you guys mess with time slots and ruin shows. Put it back behind Once Upon a Time, another truly wonderful show, BUT PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT! We with brains enjoy this show very much.
Yes, keep Sleepy Hollow around for a third, I look forward to it every Monday night.
The writers are just going to have to keep writing and come up with some inventive ideas,
they can do it…….now that Katrina dissolved into thin air, Henry aka Jeremy was killed off, I’m sure there are ways to bring them back, like any other series, they rise from the ashes.
I would like to see the relationship intensify between Ichabod and Abby.
Absolutely love Sleepy Hollow. Think the history and fiction combination makes it great. Fox you really need to keep the good stuff on and give it a chance. The last 3 episodes were some of best of last two seasons…Please, please renew.
I agree.
YES renew! People are practically flooding back, so many people coming back from every direction. If we had more eps this season word of mouth would go around and and ratings would go up. The writers screwed this season up – the viewer interest is still here, and the fandom is loyal as hell.
I love the show so much you should really keep going on with it. I am glad that Katrina and Henry are dead I mean yeah they made pretty good villains, but what Id really love to see is an Abby and Ichabod romance. since they killed off Katrina Ichabod doesn’t have anybody to stay faithful to. it’s totally setting up a romance. I love the show so much I just really hope you guys don’t cancel it.
Keep Sleepy Hollow Love It!
