What’s This TV Show About?
A FOX dance competition reality TV series, hosted by Cat Deeley, So You Think You Can Dance pits dancers against one another, in a bid to become “America’s Favorite Dancer.” In season 16, returning judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy are joined by Laurieann Gibson (Lady Gaga’s choreographer) and SYTYCD veteran Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval. Together, the judges assess the dancers’ ability in various dance styles, including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, ballroom, animation, breaking, and more. The chosen dancers then work with choreographers and compete. Each week, contestants are eliminated until a winner is selected in the season finale.
Season 16 Ratings
The 16th season of So You Think You Can Dance on FOX averaged a 0.47 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.07 million viewers. Compared to season 15, that’s down by 24% in the demo and down by 23% in viewership. Find out how So You Think You Can Dance stacks up against the other FOX TV shows.

Telly’s Take
Will FOX cancel or renew So You Think You Can Dance for season 17? The ratings continue to be quite low. This series has been a summer tradition for FOX for many years but it seems like the network has been waiting until the last minute to renew it each year. My suspicion is that, as soon as they find another series to replace it, they’ll be cancelling it or, at least giving SYTYCD a year off. That’s just my gut feeling though and, if this show’s ratings get better, I think Nigel and company will be safe. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. YES!!!! I think it should be renewed!! I’m a theater dance major and cannot tell you the joy these unbelievably skilled dancers bring to my life as well as many, many of my associates in the same general field! Please renew for season 17! My only comment would be to get a different judge than Laurieann. She is too over the top and does not mesh with the other judges in my opinion. But I will still tune in every week if she is a judge. Thanks for allowing me to ‘chime in’!
Absolutely!! This show has given not only opportunity but a voice for dancers. I believe whole heartily that it has been a huge contribution to more acceptance where male dancing is concerned. It is so loved and should continue for years to come. The art of dance is booming and SYTYC has contributed to that in abundance!

I have watched this show since the beginning and have enjoyed it each season. But I do believe some of the earlier shows had better choreographers and better dances. The judges make a big difference too. Not thrilled with the Season 16 ones.

I LOVE watching SYTYCD! The talent just seems to be getting better and better. It’s a wonderful showcase of not only dancers, but the choreographers as well. I admire both groups. I’m hoping they will do another season of ‘the next generation’. That was an amazing series to see such talented young dancers. I think this show has done a lot to advance careers for dancers. They are hard working, athletic and seem to have a very supportive community, which you don’t always see in other entertainment fields. Please keep it going! We used to really love SYTTCD. But the 2 new judges that they’ve added are plain & simple…AWFUL and hard to watch! Laurieanne is just a tad worse than Dominic with her exaggerated comments & facial expressions. We have now taken to FF thru her comments. At least Dominic isn’t as vocal. Please, you’re going to lose viewer. Get rid of them and bring on people who aren’t wearing yellow polish on fake nails and yapping on like it’s her show! Real dancers!
I love “So You Think You Can Dance”! It is one of my favorite shows on TV. Especially like it even more with Mary back the last two seasons, and the two new judges seem to be better than the last ones. Also love Kat Deeley! The dancers in the premiere were terrific. I would be extremely sad if it was not renewed. I did not like the kid’s shows as much.
