For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo. If you’re betting folding dollars in the cancellation stakes, bet on this: ABC’s Still Star-Crossed will be cancelled after one season, with no season two. Tonight, Deadline reports that after three largely unwatched episodes, the Alphabet Network is moving Still Star-Crossed from its post-Bachelorette Monday evening timeslot, to Saturdays.
A diverse Shondaland TV series airing on the ABC television network, Still Star-Crossed stars: Grant Bowler, Wade Briggs, Torrance Coombs, Dan Hildebrand, Lashana Lynch, Ebonee Noel, Medalion Rahimi, Zuleikha Robinson, Sterling Sulieman, Susan Wooldridge, Anthony Head, Caspar, Carl Chambers, Greg Chillen, Shazad Latif, Clara Rugaard, and Lucien Laviscount. The Romeo and Juliet sequel series features the bloodshed and palace intrigue overwhelming fair Verona, in the aftermath of the tragic deaths of Romeo (Laviscount) and Juliet (Rugaard).
Here is more, from Deadline:
Shondaland’s Still Star-Crossed‘s Monday run is over after three low-rated outings. Starting this coming week, the Romeo & Juliet sequel no longer will air in its assigned Monday time slot. After a break, the ABC series will continue its freshman run on July 8, airing on Saturdays.
The scheduling downgrade is a clear sign that the medieval drama won’t go beyond its first season. Still Star-Crossed is expected to get a de facto cancellation next week when the options on the cast expire.
Still Star-Crossed: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Still Star-Crossed is averaging a 0.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.96 million viewers. Find out how Still Star-Crossed stacks up against other ABC TV shows.
My bet is that ABC hoped this Shondaland series had wings, but mid-way into production, realized it did not. I can’t “know” that, but I believe it to be the truth.
What do you think? Are you still watching the Still Star-Crossed TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Let us know, below.
Please renew the show. The show hasn’t yet had the chance to improve. The storyline will probably get better in the second season almost all tv shows have a crappy first season but then improve greatly in the second season.
I love still star crossed…and i told my friends who all watched on demand and are now hooked too…why does abc always do this. I hope they reconsider
Please don’t cancel this show; it is one of the most intelligent shows on TV compared to some of the trash that is being broadcast.
Renewed I love this show
I love this show! Please don’t cancel it!
I really really love this show its very sad that its getting canceled
It’s so awful it’s entertaining. I will give it an A+ for inventive costuming that nods to a variety of periods without looking chaotic. The characters are overwrought e.g. Rosalina who will let no man tell her what to do unless it’s the Prince unless he wants her to do something she doesn’t want to do. And it’s snaking the sets are still standing considering all the scenery cheering the actors are doing.
I really like this show. Unfortunately I didn’t start watching the show during the premier. This show is diverse which I love along with an outstanding cast. The story has great potential.
I have missed the show expecting it to be there on Mondays. I am glad to know it is not entirely gone, yet. I, too, like period pieces. There are clearly differing opinions expressed which just reflects the likes and dislikes of each contributor.
I will be glad to see the next episode to see where the story goes.
I really like this show. I think it has potential. I’ve even ordered the book because some episodes move very slowly but I’m interested to see what happens. Would watching it at it’s airing time be best? I watch it on dvr later because I can’t stand advertisements. But pls, diversely casted shows like this are rare, pls don’t cancel OR drag it on unnecessarily long. Too short is a pity but too long is a waste. Develop it well, pls.
Cancel it. It’s awful.
I LOVE a period drama, so I was very excited to watch this show… but it’s crap. Bad writing, flimsy plotline, both weak and exaggerated acting, implausible relationships. Life’s too short to waste it on bad TV.
which relationships are implausible? And I’m sure it was screened before it was released. Acting, plotline, etc. can be improved with time. Not all great shows start off great.
I LIKE this show.
I think it shouldn’t cancelled it.
I have been watching but mostly as background noise. I wanted to give it a chance bc it is an interesting idea to imagine what happened after R&J died, but the writing has been very blah so viewers are not missing out by ignoring this series lol. A Sat night move is the kiss of death in the tv world.
I personally like the show. I like the strong female leads. Have watched all 3 episodes. Maybe moving it will help. There may be others like me who do not enjoy the Bachelor series. We tend to go for other networks with better shows rather than watch a stupid show that leads into a good show.
I don’t think I’ve ever fought for a show this much. but I am also a fan of the female leads, whether it’s Mme. Capulet, Rosaline, Livia, or the princess. I’ve never seen American tv boast of so many female minority leads before and it would break my heart to see them snuffed out so soon.
I agree with the fact that there are as many women as there are men in prominent positions. While the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet ended the first episode, understanding the Capulets, Montagues and the time of Verona and Italy is easier to understand than trying to read Shakespeare. I am also pleased that there are no race issues in this series. Each character holds their own as if they were born to play each specific character
