The CW has been having some great success with DC Comics superhero shows. Now, CBS has gotten into the game with their own entry — Supergirl. While Arrow and The Flash fit well with rest of The CW’s programming, Supergirl seems out of place on CBS, a network known for older-skewing procedurals. Will the new series soar in the ratings or will it crash? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, and Jeremy Jordan.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/12 update: Supergirl has been renewed for a second season but is moving to The CW.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Need to be a second season!!!!!!
It’s a shame that current rating system isn’t updated enough to take in digital streaming rates as well. Supergirl has one of the highest streaming rates on CBS site. especially on the 2nd day when it’s open for CBS’ free episodes. I’ve studied streaming services on multiple channels. Supergirl’s come up really high for streaming and reoccurring streaming. To say Supergirl isn’t doing well is not a fair judgement. TV is no longer the only source for watching a show. The crowds this show is hitting is also leaning toward younger generations. I’m amazed it can already bring in 6-8… Read more »
That’s the best comment I’ve seen yet on the ratings. I didn’t know that streaming wasn’t counted (and it should be). Thanks for the fine post
Completely agree. While Nielsen has been flagging in recent years, specifically due to so many new and/or alternate forms of viewing show “xyz”, they are beginning to do a bit better. But they still aren’t collecting, or aren’t able to collect from every viable (& legitimate) viewing medium. Along with exactly what “IamNERD” said, even those who no longer have cable or satellite subscriptions, as more and more people opt for internet access only [including me] they CAN in fact watch the show LEGALLY on the network’s website. And I can’t fathom a reason that isn’t trackable…it’s the frickin’ network’s… Read more »
CBS’ site been pushing a lot more Supergirl’s promotion after mid season. It’s appearing in more and more long term promotions too. I’m sure they acknowledge the streaming rates too. Hope for 2nd season.
Lowest common denominator trash for the not so bright. At least it’s some consolation that this crap has mediocre ratings. It’ll probably get cancelled next season since CBS wasted way too much money to completely abandon the project so fast.
The “not so bright” is the type of people who can’t control themselves from trash talking without researching facts. Supergirl’s “mediocre ratings'” only seem mediocre because it’s competing with hit shows in America’s most watched network, CBS. It brought in average 6-8 millions viewers weekly. That’s already 3x more than most hero shows out there. And to emphasize again, in our modern world, there’s this thing called “streaming service” on CBS website. Supergirl happened to rule in that realm. If the rating included digital streaming, Supergirl will be one of the highest rating shows on CBS, it’s doing well in… Read more »
SG’s ratings among the 18-49 demo isn’t much better than the Flash or Gotham. The show appeared to hit a stride around the middle of the first season then sort of went through the motions afterwards. The writing is atrocious at times and the action is lame. The feminist angle is stilted and draws a lot of negative response. It Angel From Hell was drawing 6 million viewers per episode when it was unceremoniously canned. Maybe SG is performing better in online viewing, but I’m guessing the show’s budget is up there. American Idol was drawing 8-10 million viewers during… Read more »
The point is that the tv ratings didn’t include online streaming. If we rely on traditional tv rating, Supergirl’s 6 million viewers aren’t that wow for CBS. However, if we add in the digital streaming, it’s very good for CBS especially CBS is trying to promote its CBS All Access service. In the future, most people will slowly leaning more on streaming than tv broadcasting. A huge group of people won’t be watching a show on the dot. They will stream it when they have time. Angel from Hell didn’t have enough people stream it as much so its 6… Read more »
Its numbers have been consistently plunging throughout the season both on ratings and digital. It’s soap opera trash with some mediocre action mixed together.
@Cole…Again, I don’t think you know much about the rating other than some articles you googled online, which only included traditional rating (Nielsen). The digital ratings aren’t dropping. In fact, CBS site has been adding Supergirl in more long term promotion. From the statistic I gathered, Supergirl’s digital streaming rates are one of the highest on the site. It’s not just 1st time streaming. It’s high on reoccurring streaming as well. This show is trying to inspire younger kids and giving people more positive perspectives. It’s not meant for you to feel “omg, so crazy, they just killed a main… Read more »
,h,i im only unknown,fan to super,girl
PLEASE renew this show! Like others have said it tugs at the heart strings and takes you out of reality for a while.
I am so addicted to it. Kenadee is 7 yrs old and finds it so Inspiring. We need to know who is in the pod and if the find jeremiah. They have to renew it
CBS won’t let anyone say anything too negative because of their liberal agenda spewed through a supposed family TV show. NO ONE is doing the Superman/Supergirl story lines justice.Cancel it!
CBS is just using Supergirl to promote liberal thinking and trying to call it entertainment. NO ONE is doing a good job with the Superman/Supergirl story lines. Give it up! This attempt is DUMB…..Cancel it!
Please renew it! It takes me out of reality for awhile. Its exciting and it tugs at the heart strings.. I can’t get enough of it.
I think they need to at least show superman and supergirl fighting for once, they are like always showing them chatting online but they need to meet in real life. I suggest they RENEW it and that they bring more superheros into the show so that its not just her. BTW, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO OR WHAT IS IN THAT POD THAT LANDED????
WB doesn’t let them show Superman in TV shows until the movie is over. However, the fan kept on bugging them for it so they end up have to show some cameo/shadow. If they can’t show Superman for real, might as well not showing at all.
Renew the show!!!!!
Renew It! The whole family watches every week. They always get rid of good shows, and keep the garbage ones.Keep it on. If CBS doesn’t want it, let The CW have it to continue.
Can’t wait for next season. We’re 62 and 65 yesrs old. Great series!!!
Diane,
I’m 63 and LOVE it. Sometimes the writing is a little weak but for the most part, it is very good. I love the old theme of good vs evil. . It is now my favorite show.
RENEW IT! & im nearing 50!!!
Please cancel this show and make a new one it is a good try but…. in space you don’t have thrust and you can’t breathe… seriously what the script writers are thinking do they now anything about the comics? A great way to lose audiences is to ravage the standards of the super heroes I don’t care what they fight or the story line is i will watch it but please don’t touch the standards please!
Renew it! I love the show and it’s a show I can watch with my grandchildren, ages 5-10. Monday is “our” night!
