Last season, Supergirl aired on CBS but the ratings weren’t strong enough for it to stay on the network. The TV show’s now moved to The CW. Will many viewers follow the superhero series? Will it be a hit in the ratings on the smaller network — even though the numbers will be much lower? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
Supergirl revolves around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). As a girl, she survived Krypton’s destruction by being sent to Earth where she was raised as a human. She kept her powers a secret and now, as an adult, works as an assistant at a big city media conglomerate. Kara’s existence becomes known to the world and she is enlisted by a super-secret agency to help protect the citizens from evil forces as Supergirl. The rest of the cast includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, Floriana Lima, and Chris Wood. Recurring actors this season include Calista Flockhart, Ian Gomez, Katie McGrath, Lynda Carter, Brenda Strong, and Tyler Hoechlin.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The first season of Supergirl on CBS averaged a 1.68 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.68 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supergirl TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
the show has become way over the top too left wing. if i want political commentary i’ll just go to msnbc or fox. we stoppped watching after episode 1 this season
Supergirl was really interesting. I enjoyed watching all of the characters develop. I did not like how Mon El left which really made me upset, I wanted it to be a happy ending for Kara because she deserved it. Season 3? !!
I know this site doesn’t publish the ratings for reruns. But it is interesting that the reruns of Supergirl have been getting over 1 million viewers this summer while Flash, Arrow, and LoT are only getting around 0.7 million.
I enjoyed season 1. Season 2 just jumped into full on politics with the writers full on campaigning for Hillary Clinton. They don’t even try to be subtle. When I want politics, I watch the news. I think Supergirl has tremendous potential and they have the perfect actress for the part. Get different writers and lay off the politics or this show will wind up in the dust bin, which I would hate to see. I’m watchning on netflix and not even sure I’m going to make it through season 2. Stop trying subliminal mind control and just entertain!
As a comic book character fan I have always struggled with the TV/movie versions. It is like the producers, directors, actors and, particularly the writers, never researched the characters. I won’t even go into the issues with physics (please don’t give the “it’s not real” response) – if supergirl is even as remotely strong as her cousin, then a scene where punching a run of the mill enemy only turns their head, well, that might be why fans are so disappointed and no longer fans. Consider making supergirl as powerful as was intended and get creative with the storylines and… Read more »
If you’ll notice in the opening credits it says based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Nowhere does it say these characters are exact duplicates of the ones Jerry and Joe created. They aren’t even on the same Earth. They are on their own separate Earth-38. And nowhere do run of the mill villains turn her head. Every villain capable of giving her a fight is also super powered. Fans are all over the place on what they like and don’t like. Some want Kara and Lena to be lovers and so hate Mon-El for getting in… Read more »
