TV show description:
Based on the Broadway play by Tracy Letts, this comedy TV series revolves around a business owner, his friends, and a changing world.
Arthur Przybyszewski (Judd Hirsch) is the no-nonsense owner of a small donut shop, Superior Donuts, that’s located in a quickly changing neighborhood in Chicago. He’s a gruff guy who doesn’t like change and refuses to sell newfangled cronuts and macchiatos or, renovate his dated shop that hasn’t changed since it opened in 1969.
His world changes when an enterprising go-getter named Franco Wicks (Jermaine Fowler) fast talks his way into Arthur’s life and becomes his only employee. Franco convinces Arthur that he can bring the shop and its irritable owner into the 21st century.
Though he doesn’t like change, Arthur realizes his business in jeopardy. He grudgingly realizes that he had better embrace the change around him and that Franco could be exactly what he and his donut shop need to survive.
Thankfully for Arthur, he does have a collection of supportive and loyal regular patrons. Officer Randy DeLuca (Katey Sagal) is a cop whose late father was also Arthur’s best friend. Her overeager rookie partner is Office James Jordan (Darien Sills-Evans). Carl ‘Tush’ Tushinski (David Koechner) uses the shop counter as a makeshift office so he can keep tabs on a variety of odd jobs via the shop’s fax machine.
Maya (Anna Baryshnikov) is a privileged grad-school student who’s working on her degree. Sweatpants (Rell Battle) is Franco’s longtime friend who’s willing to dress as a donut to help drum up more business.
Looking to cash in on the urban renewal is Arthur’s over-caffeinated neighbor, Fawz (Maz Jobrani). He’s an aspiring real estate capitalist who pushes Arthur on a daily basis to sell the building to him.
Episode #34 — Donut Day Afternoon
An armed robbery at the donut shop prompts Arthur, Franco and Sofia to make life-changing decisions about their futures.
First aired: May 14, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Superior Donuts TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
We are so sad to see this that his show is cancelled. Its one of the non violent shows and we looked forward to viewing it every Monday.
Love Love Love this show. I am so saddened that it was cancelled. One of the only good shows on Monday night. It just goes to show how stupid the network exec’s are. If it is not violent or reality I guess no one will watch, get a clue.
I am so sad to see this show has been cancelled! I don’t watch many sitcoms but this one was great and I looked forward to seeing it every week. The ensemble cast was so varied – everyone had their distinct character and flaws but always in a very funny way. Plus I’ve been a big Judd Hirsch fan since TAXI and was happy to see him resurface in a new show. Hope it comes back!
This is a great show. Hirsch’s personality contrast with Fowler, Sagal’s input and the rest of the characters make for interesting contrasts. Their acting is good. I will say the same thing I feel about “Two Broke Girls” some of the scripts could have been better. Bring this show back.
Good to see a bad one go. Waste of good air time. STUPID TITLE for a STUPID SHOW. NOT funny in the least.
Cancelled? I love this show! Judd Hirsch is always amazing, Katy Sagal likewise, and Jermaine Fowler is a breath of fresh air, with his sunny performance, intelligent and challenging character. The writers do a good job of raising today’s issues without going overboard into melodrama, or making them appear irrelevant. I’m always looking for a show that has all of these qualities and there are so VERY few. Speaking of which, how about a new version of Living Single?
Bring back Superior Donuts. It is one of the few shows not about murder, sex and showing bloody bodies. Will have to check out the other networks on Monday night.
great show renew
To bad they cancelled the show, my kids and I love it. It was fun lugjy and at the same time very poignant for today’s society. When a 12 year old gets it, it is obviously written well. So sorry to see it dropped, maybe a different time slot but definately should be brought back.
It most definitely should have been renewed! It was my favorite Monday night show!!!!
Yes it was a very funny show. Why do they take all the good shows off. Who gets to decide. Why not real people who watch and follow the shows.
Yes I think Superior Donuts should be renewed !!! C’mon season 3 !!! It is a great little sit-com … EVERYONE on this show is funny. !!! Love it … Hope it will return !!!!!
Just a rehash of Chico and the Man. But funny, great casting, I like how they make fun of every race, culture, etc and no one gets offended.
Really liked the show……love all the actors & the quirky characters. Very disappointed that the show is cancelled!
Sad to see the show go. Read comments here and see how some find everything to be bad. I guess the fearful have to ruin everything. Was a great show, not over the top, didn’t have to make sex jokes, and for those who found the show to be overbearing in its message must have a lot of weight on their shoulders.
It’s sad when the good shows are going and being canceled your other shows they’re shooting killing murder, Racism and worried about who is in office the show was down-to-earth show good friends good humor without being ronchi and blowing up half the world or who’s gonna kill who or serious stuff about who murders it was a fun family good show that had their versatile And showed how each other could support each other to move ahead in their life said that these Canada shows have to go I will look for the similar and watched them
Great show enjoyed it
We were REALLY sad to see this cancelled. It was a good relaxing show, with on going comedy. bring it back……please.
